Artifact #8: CTLE Professional Development Workshop: Western New York

Children’s Book Expo

I have included a letter and certificate highlighting my participation and professional

development in the area of the literacy by attending a CTLE Professional Development

Workshop for the Western New York Children’s Book Expo (WNYCBE) along with my

contribution to creating an Author Study teacher resources made available to participants and

educators at the Expo. This artifact demonstrates my commitment to professional development

and firm belief and disposition for lifelong learning and improvement. As an educator, we must

be committed to bettering ourselves and keeping up with the ever-changing field as new

recourses become available. This artifact also demonstrates my ability to collaborate and create

and share resources for the use of other teachers. Teaching is all about using the best tools we

have in order to creating inspiring learning environments for our learners. Effective teachers

believe in the value of teamwork. They are committed to coming together to improve teaching

and value the resourcefulness of others. Continuing to learn and grow as a professional educator

after I am finished my studies at Medaille is something that I deeply value, as there is always

more to learn and implement in the classroom. I hope that this artifact will demonstrate my

values and beliefs in continued learning and professional development as well as my

commitment to collaboration with other educators to provide the best resources to our students.

The artifact is connected to the InTASC standards for professional learning and ethical

practice as well as leadership and collaboration. It meets the NYS Code of Ethics for educators

committing to their own learning in order to develop their practice and the OCT Ethical

Standards for continual reflection assists members in exercising integrity in their professional

commitments and responsibilities. It connects to the CAEP standard that ensures that candidates
use research and evidence to develop an understanding of the teaching profession. Finally, it

meets the ILA standards for professional learning and leadership. The individual standards are

listed below as well as the artifact contain the letter demonstrating my participation in

professional collaboration, as well as my CTLE Professional Development Workshop certificate.

InTASC Standards

Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice The teacher engages in ongoing

professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the

effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the

community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

9(a) The teacher engages in ongoing learning opportunities to develop knowledge and

skills in order to provide all learners with engaging curriculum and learning experiences

based on local and state standards.

9(n) The teacher sees him/herself as a learner, continuously seeking opportunities to draw

upon current education policy and research as sources of analysis and reflection to

improve practice.

Standard #10: Leadership and Collaboration The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and

opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families,

colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to

advance the profession.

10(f) The teacher engages in professional learning, contributes to the knowledge and skill

of others, and works collaboratively to advance professional practice.

NYS Code of Ethics

Principle 3 Educators commit to their own learning in order to develop their practice. Educators

recognize that professional knowledge and development are the foundations of their practice.

They know their subject matter, and they understand how students learn. Educators respect the

reciprocal nature of learning between educators and students. They engage in a variety of

individual and collaborative learning experiences essential to develop professionally and to

promote student learning. They draw on and contribute to various forms of educational research

to improve their own practice.

OCT Ethical Standards

Integrity

Honesty, reliability and moral action are embodied in the ethical standard of Integrity. Continual

reflection assists members in exercising integrity in their professional commitments and

responsibilities.

CAEP/TEAC Standards

Standard 1. Content and Pedagogical Knowledge The provider ensures that candidates develop a

deep understanding of the critical concepts and principles of their discipline and, by completion,

are able to use discipline-specific practices flexibly to advance the learning of all students toward

attainment of college- and career-readiness standards.

1.2 Providers ensure that candidates use research and evidence to develop an

understanding of the teaching profession and use both to measure their P-12 students’

progress and their own professional practice.

ILA Standards

6: Professional Learning and Leadership

Candidates recognize the importance of, participate in, and facilitate ongoing professional

learning as part of career-long leadership roles and responsibilities.
