My family tree

Lesson Plan

Presentation:
This Lesson Plan is designed for students in 6° in school age about 12 and 13
years old, The level suggested in this grade is A1* (According to the
connection to Common European Reference Framework and Colombian
school grades)
Designed for about 20 learners/ Basic Level.

Grade: 6° High school


Methodology: Task- Based Learning
Topic: Family Members – Genitive Case
Learning Goal:
Communication: Talk about their family members
Linguistic: Identify members of the family and make basic relationships
using the genitive case.
Language Skills: Listen, speaking and grammar use.
Learning Styles: Visual, auditory and cognitive.
Time Spent: An hour and a half
Material:
Course content:
Family Members vocabulary (learned in previous classes)
Grammar explanation including several examples.
A whitheboard, markers
Flash cards with family members (A big irreal family)
Energy and motivation
Pre- Task:
In this level its necesary star the class in the native language (spanish),
because the native language its the best way to improve and motivation
the learning a second language, its the base for explanation grammar
and verbal forms.

Begin for explaining the topic in spanish, give examples, and talk e.g.
about your family members, then ask about your students their family
members. Introduce rules in spanish about the topic (Genitive Case) and
make sure they understood.

The teacher previously elaborate flash cards with an irreal family members
and build a family tree on the board.

Count on the opinion of the children encourage them to participate


which character they think should be according to the flash card.

Development: (Practice)
From this moment on, you can switch between Spanish and English
Language (make sure they understand). Now you must explaining the
topic with grammar and examples in English, using the whiteboard, and
expressing your ideas with movement.

Project the video and explain again about the activities presented there.

Main Activity
Name: Finding Family Members
After having explain the use of the genitive case and having a family tree
on the board, make groups in 5 students for each.
Encourage them to put a creative name on their group and have a
spokesperson per each.
Then start the activity. ask questions related to family position related to a
member: e.g.

In the tree, Sara is the great-grandmother, Manuel the great grandfather


and Juan the great-grandson. you can ask:

Q. Juan is Manuel´s great grandfather who is Sara?


A. Sara is Juan´s great grandmother.
Or sentences to complete:
Q. Juan is ----
A. Juan is Manuel´s greatgreat son.
The idea is to accumulate points and above all to understand the
relationships and use of the subject.
Playful Examination: (formative evaluation)
In the development of activity the teacher make a playful examination,
attitudes, participation, and use of grammar and vocabulary.

The playful examination is about attitudes in their students and about


development, comprehension of the topic and assestment about the
lesson plan. (self evaluation)
Post Task:
Make group evaluation about the activity, the opinion from their students
its very important for next lesson plans.

Assessment: A qualitative examination isn't enough for evaluate the


objectives. You need implement a knowledge assessment.
Production:
1. Ask them to prepare for the next class a short story about their own
family tree using the genitive case.
2. Prepare a quiz or short assessment instrument. (sumative evaluation)
You can use the technology, and prepare a virtual quiz and some activities
about the topic, the topic it´s easy but need practice to improve and use
naturaly.

Clarify that it is a summative evaluation, it is important to support the


responsibility in our students. In their learning proccess.
