Purpose
Xerox PWS Framework provides the common PWS Diagnostic Tool functionality for all products: (service
entry, dc131, dc330, etc). The diagnostic routines that are product specific (ex: Xerographic routines) are
delivered in separate applications that are installed and controlled by PWS Framework. Not all product
tools change functionality with each release of Framework but all product tools are recompiled and
delivered with every CD. Table 1 identifies the product tool versions included on the last few deliveries of
Framework.
Note: The PWS Diagnostic Tools are intended for use by Xerox Service Personnel only. The Tools and
information contained in this document are not intended for distribution to Xerox third party service
providers or outside organizations.

Installation
The PWS Framework install application manages the install of all product tools. Always delete previous
versions of the PWS Framework before attempting a PWS upgrade. When Framework is uninstalled all
associated product tools will also be uninstalled. During the new Framework install the latest version of all
product tools are available for install.
PWS Software Version Information
To determine the PWS Diagnostic Tool version, launch any diagnostic tool and select About from the
menu bar in the PWS Diagnostic Tool window. The “About PWS Diagnostic Tool” window provides
information about the versions of PWS Framework components. The Product Information and Diagnostic
Routine sections list all product specific information for the applications and dynamic link libraries (DLLs)
installed. The following table highlights the critical components.

and tried to write back on restore. Corrected PWS to filter out
bogus data from incomplete scripts and not attempt to restore.
Corrected in NVM Access dll.
7 4110F DC131 Doesn’t display finisher NVM location referenced to filter IOT configuration has
PTS3542 when connected to IOT errors. Remove filtering and will display entire NVM list.
Corrected in database.
8 DC8000F Unable to launch Diag Tool after Changes to the DC7000AP/DC8000AP database caused
PTS3552 framework v4.3.1 download. problems during uninstall. Internal version issue not a field
problem. Corrected product associations in v4.4.
9 ALL DC100 unable to connect. Database access conflicts during meter reads. Changed the
PTS3566 PWS method of accessing database. Corrected in dc100 dll.
10 DC8000F DC131 no SFM display in stand Set the flag for SFM in code for stand alone to true to remove
EVT2583 alone mode. filtering for SFM. Corrected the dc131 dll.
11 DC8000F DC882 unable to write adjustments The PWS was sending multiple parameters (both DC5000 and
PTS3568 to IOT. DC8000F). Corrected to send only DC8000F info. Fixed in
dc882_C.dll.

Information about PWS Diagnostic Tools and Framework dependency

The Xerox PWS Framework supports multiple products. Although all product tools are included with each
MultiProduct PWS Diagnostic Tool CD, all product tools do not include functional changes with each
delivery. Therefore the Multi-Product PWS Diagnostic Tool CD does not have to be distributed to all field
populations every time. The CD is available in MAPS for all to order but it is only mailed to the SLDS
distributions for products that have feature and/or functional changes.

The Xerox PWS Framework version must change with every CD delivery because it manages the
installation of all product tools. When the Framework is compiled during development to create the install
executable all product tools must be recompiled with that version of Framework. Each time the product
tools are recompiled the version number changes for development control purposes. The three decimal
places in the product tool version number provide information about changes. In the table on the following
page refer to the previous delivery of Multi Product PWS Diagnostic Tools CD (701P47404).

Example of previous version: 4110/4590/4595 PWS Diagnostic Tool v1.7.2

The first two decimal places in the version number indicate the PWS Diagnostic Tool functional content
(v1.7.1) and the third decimal place indicates the number of times that tool has been recompiled for new
PWS Framework delivery or testing (v1.7.2). Therefore the initial v1.7.0 (delivered with Framework v4.2)
and the v1.7.2 (delivered with Framework v4.3) have the same functional content but are compiled with
different Framework versions. The PWS Framework version and the product tool versions are dependent.
Because of this dependency all product tools are delivered on each CD so that will be installed with the
correct Framework. With this CD 4110/4590/4595 PWS Diagnostic Tool v1.8 include fixes for field
problems.
The table indicates that all product tools have changed with the last two deliveries of the Multi Product
PWS Diagnostic Tool CD. Therefore all versions of the CD prior to 701P47563 are outdated and should be
replaced with a current version.
