Penelitian
(Critical Appraisal)

Moh. Syafar Sangkala

Critical Appraisal
• Menilai kualitas penelitian yang akan
digunakan untuk referensi penelitian atau
aplikasi EBP.

• Proses kritis jurnal membantu klinisi

menginterpretasi & menentukan aplikabilitas
penelitian terhadap pasien mereka.
For every clinical question there is an
appropriate research design
Clinical Question Research Design
Effectiveness of an Systematic review, RCT,
intervention Cohort
Diagnostic Cross-sectional

Prognostic Cohort

Harm, causation Case-control, Cohort

Tipe Laporan Penelitian
1. Presentations at Professional Conferences
– Oral presentations
– In poster sessions

2. Research Journal Articles

Why Are Research Articles So Hard to Read?

1.Compactness
2.Jargon
3.Objectivity (Passive & Active Sentences)
4.Statistical Information

(Polit & Beck, 2010, page 94)

Critical Appraisal & Research design
• Walaupun prinsip-prinsip dasar kritisi jurnal penelitian
sama ….. Terdapat pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang berbeda
untuk menilai desain-desain penelitian berbeda:
– RCT atau Quasy CT
– Cohort
– Case control
– Case series / Case study
– Survey
– Penelitian kualitatif
Umumnya sebagian besar artikel penelitian terdiri dari 4
bagian/sections setelah Judul & Abstrak:
• Introduction or background
• Methods
• Results
• Discussion
Plus Keywords, abstract & reference list

(Polit & Beck, 2012, Page 99)

Critical Appraisal of Quantitative Research

A. Are the results of the study valid?  VALIDITAS

B. What were the results?  RELIABILITY

C. Will the results help me in caring for my patients?

 APPLICABILITY
A. Validitas

1. Clearly Focused Issue (PICOT)

2. Metode sampling
3. Follow Up & Analysis (Consort Statement)
4. Blinding
5. Homogenitas
6. Perlakuan selain intervensi apakah sama
B. Reliabilitas

Inferential statistic

• Signifikansi
• Presisi
C. Applicability
• Is the sample similar to your own patients/clients?
• Does the setting resemble your own setting?
• Can you provide the same treatment in your setting?
• Consider the size of the effect and its clinical significance
• Consider the overall quality of the study to decide whether
the findings are likely to be true
• Are the likely treatment benefits worth the potential harm &
costs?
