Advanced technology requirement based on the cyber-physical system, the internet of things, cloud
computing, big data, augmented reality and system integration will fundamentally remodel the way we
live, work and communicate to one another. Whether we like or not, we are part of a global industry
revolution that continues to evolve and harness a new emerging environment. Digitization of knowledge
both in real and virtual world will be the utmost driver of innovation and revolution in every aspect of life.
In principle digitization of knowledge will lead to the exponential growing amount of data and hence can
be made accessible and shared through the advancement technology underpinning the Industry
Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). At the first half, this course will superficially address and render the concept and
pillars of knowledge digitization and machine learning in IR4.0 as an important component to drive
Malaysian transitioning from a labour-driven economy to a knowledge-driven society. The second half
of this course aims to introduce a systematic strategy and best practices for conducting research
particularly to intensify and guide the process of producing a research proposal in conducting research
in psychology, social work and education. Throughout the semester, the student will also be equipped
with IR4.0 skills: the 4Cs-communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity.
7. Credit Value : 3
9. Objectives :
This course serves as a foundation for students to acquire knowledge and skills on research method
and understanding the nature of research in psychology, social work and education.
Objectives:
1. To apply the fundamental aspects of IR 4.0 in scientific research.
2. To demonstrate the use of knowledge and skills in research method.
3. To design and develop a good research proposal.
10. Learning outcomes :
On successfully completing this course, the student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate and apply the fundamental aspects of IR 4.0 and scientific data in psychology, social
work and education.
2. Demonstrate proficiency in conducting psychology, social work and education research and produce
a good research proposal effectively.
13. Synopsis
This course will introduce and expose the student to the concept and fundamental pillars of IR4.0 in
particular the knowledge digitization and machine learning. The student will also be introduced to the
systematic and structural outline in conducting research including data acquisition, research problem
formulation, conducting experiment, data analysis and producing a good research proposal in the field
of psychology, social work and education.
