𝑑𝑥

1. 4𝑥 3 𝑦 2 + 𝑥 2 𝑦 5 = 3 4. 𝑦 = √3𝑥 2 − 2𝑥 + 1

2. 4𝑥 3 𝑦 2 − 𝑥 2 + 2𝑦 = 9𝑥 5. 𝑦 = (𝑥 + 1)√2𝑥 − 1

2. 𝑦 = 4 𝑥 4 − 3 𝑥 3 + 2 𝑥 2 + 3

III.DIRECTIONS: Solve the following Problems. Show your work hand solution. (5 pts. each)
1. The weekly demand for pulsar DVD recorders is given by the demand equation
𝑝 = −0.02𝑥 + 300 (0 ≤ 𝑥 ≤ 15,000)
Where p denotes the wholesale unit price in dollars and x denotes the quantity demanded. The weekly total cost
function associated with manufacturing these recorders is
𝐶(𝑥) = 0.000003𝑥 3 − 0.04𝑥 2 + 200𝑥 + 70,000
Dollars. Find marginal revenue, marginal cost, and marginal profit for a level of 3000 units.

2. A large cannister in the shape of a right circular cylinder is being drained. The radius of the cannister is 3 feet. At the
instant that it is draining at the rate of 5 cubic feet per minute, how fast is the level dropping?
3. An open box is to be made from a rectangular piece of stainless steel plate by cutting equal squares from each corner and
folding up the sides. Find the dimensions of the box of maximum volume if the plate has dimensions 3 meters by 8 meters.
4. A manufacturer’s profit function is given by 𝑃(𝑥) = −2𝑥 3 + 270𝑥 2 − 4,800𝑥 − 6,000 where x is in thousands of units
and profit is in pesos. Find the company’s maximum profit if it can produce at most 100,000 units.
5. The interest rate on an investment varied between 2000 and 2012, given by 𝑦 = −0.0866𝑥 2 + 0.866𝑥 + 5.8, where x=0
is the year 2000 and y is the annual return, as a percent, for the year x. during what year did the investment have the highest
rate of return?
6. A digital video disc manufacturer finds the demand for a new release is 𝐷(𝑝) = −2𝑝2 − 50𝑝 + 100,000 thousand copies
when the price is 𝑝 pesos. What is the elasticity of demand when the price is PhP50 and PhP100? At what prices is the demand
elastic?
7. Find the two positive numbers when the second no. is the reciprocal of the first and the sum is minimum.
8. A company finds that if it manufactures x units of its product each day, the production cost is 𝐶(𝑥) = 2𝑥 3 − 3𝑥 2 −
12𝑥 + 500. How many units of its product should the company produce per day to minimize the cost production? What is the
minimum cost?
9. A sari sari store’s daily revenue function is given by 𝑅(𝑥) = 0.05𝑥 2 + 0.8𝑥, where x is the number of items sold per day.
If the number of items sold is decreasing at a rate of PhP150 pesos per day, find the rate of change of the store’s revenue when
100 items are sold
10. A monopoly faces the demand schedule 𝑝 = 460 − 2𝑞 and the cost schedule 𝐶 = 20 + 0.5𝑞 2 . How much should it sell
to maximize profit and what will this maximum profit be?
