Mathematics represent a way of approaching reality; offers relevant elements that contribute
to the development of reasoning skills, reflection, analysis of the environment,
argumentation, improvement in terms of skills for solving problems not only those proposed
in schools or colleges, but also those that occur in others fields of knowledge.
This blog presents reviews of three important civilizations in the history of mathematics, the
biography of one of the most relevant mathematicians in the history of mathematics, an
interview that presents important aspects of the contribution of the Greek civilization in
mathematics and finally a timeline where data and important characters are presented in the
history of mathematics, from prehistory to the present.
RESEÑAS
Below is a review of three civilizations that managed to transcend and lay their own
foundations with respect to arithmetic, algebra and geometry, and that today are the essence
of Mathematics. Thanks to these, and of course to all civilizations, this science is now
highlighted
ENTREVISTA AL EXPERTO:
In the present interview the Engineer Cesar Celis will present the importance that the Greek
civilization had in the mathematical history and the main contributions made in this important
discipline.
The place of the Greeks within the field of mathematics is undoubted, since it was they who
sought to understand the nature of this science, and with the elements within their reach they
succeeded, leaving their legacy to future generations. Below are some of these valuable
contributions.
Archimedes of Syracuse was one of the great mathematicians who left his mark in the history
of this important discipline, and one of the most admired characters for his intelligence and
analytical and creative ability. Below is his biography.

Instituciones Educativas.
Greek Civilization
Throughout the history of mathematics there were civilizations that made significant
contributions. One of these civilizations and maybe the most important was the "Greek
Civilization" because they saw mathematics in a very different way than the Egyptians and
the Babylonians worked it, because these last two civilizations dealt with mathematics from
a more empirical approach, centered on practice which is reflected in their impressive and
admirable constructions. Taking into account these contributions, the Greeks began to worry
about studying and understanding the nature of mathematics and the why of things, thus
In this civilization we can highlight the work of important mathematicians, such as Thales of
Miletus and Pythagoras: Thales, is the creator of theorems of similarity between triangles;
Pythagoras among other things is known by the theorem that bears his name (Pythagorean
as the father of geometry, his main work was entitled "The Elements", set of books that
systematizes a part of Greek knowledge about geometry, which was the basis for the work
Archimedes was one of the most important mathematicians for his great contributions to
modern mathematics, He created the way to calculate volumes of figures obtained from
conical figures using a new theoretical method which consisted in dividing the figures into
infinite parts. He also laid the foundations of mechanics and integral calculus.
This is why Greek civilization is considered the most important in mathematical history. He
achieved that his compendium of theories will last with the passage of time and that the
postulates of the Greek mathematicians remain valid in the classrooms of the Educational
Institutions.
