THE VALUES OF AN AUGUSTINIAN

Colegio San Agustin-Makati is one of the most prestigious schools in Manila. Its level of
education is accompanied by the country’s brightest teachers who teach the students to achieve
a higher form of education. Aside from these, it also has state-of-the-art facilities that help students
excel not only in their academics, sports as well as in other areas that will make each student a
well-rounded individual.
The school has three major core values which are Caritas, Veritas, and Unitas. Caritas
when translated to English means love and for Augustinians it is one of the core values that they
value the most not only for the love of God but for the love of others as well. They know that every
where they go God will always be at their side and whatever decisions they make in life, God will
be there like their parents who understand them and love them unconditionally. When love is
always present in us then we will always desire for the good of others. Veritas, on the other hand
means truth and for Augustinians it is always important to tell the truth or always be truthful to
ourselves and in all our dealings. Augustinians are known for searching for truth and we value
truth in everything that we do. Unitas, when translated to English is unity. This core value is very
evident in every Augustinian and this is because Colegio San Agustin-Makati encourages its
students to be united or support one another because the school believes that if the students are
united with one another then the students will avoid being against each other which will also help
the students socialize and become united in whatever they do. They will not fight against each
other but instead will work for the common good of all the students. The school believes that with
these core values the students will be able to show other people what being an Augustinian means
and what they come to be when they study in Colegio San Agustin-Makati. These values are
distinct because it may be seen in other people, but it is different in Augustinians because it
naturally becomes a part of our lives as Augustinians. Once us Augustinians learn more or
discover more about this, we must be able to put these core values to use. This is important
because as Augustinians it is our duty to share these values to others outside of Colegio San
Agustin-Makati.
These three core values are very important for the school because they expect these three
values to be observed or embodied by its students when they enter the school and when they
leave to begin a new chapter in their lives. These core values actually mean more to Augustinians
and this is because when you are in Colegio San Agustin-Makati you do not just learn these core
values through the teachings of its teachers, but you actually learn them throughout your time in
the school and these are values that become a part of us through our actions in the school. These
values will naturally and automatically be practiced by each student and will become a part of
their daily lives.
