2.3 Adaptor Wiring Diagram

In Figure 2 Wiring Diagram is presented the wiring diagram for video interface kit. This kit will
extend the CID LCD-TFT with three aux composite video inputs selected through multi-function
push button. Any video device with composite (RCA) / S-Video(SVHS) output can be connected
to “Video Input #1, 2 and 3”. To the “Video Input #4 RVC”, enabled by reversing lamp selection
through “RVC control” signal, can be connected any NTSC or PAL rear view camera.
Furthermore, having the “Control Port” connected to your In CarPC, the user is able to control
the video interface directly from Front End (e.g. Centrafuse) / Terminal (e.g. HyperTerminal)
software running on CarPC.
The Section 3 details the functions and related hotkey codes that need to be sent by Front End
/Terminal through COM serial port. This feature will enable your CID LCD-TFT to work directly
with CarPC. In this mode, the CarPC will control directly the video interface replacing the multi-
function push button (it’s still working in this mode).
For CarPC video connectivity, two solutions are available: “better”- through 4pins S-video
female connector and “good” – through RCA composite female connector.

Note:
DON’T use both solutions in the same time. This two solutions suppose that your CarPC to have
available an S-Video / Composite connector. Otherwise, you need a VGA to S-Video/Composite

4 Video Interface Installation

The video interface must be installed inside of CID between LCD and controller. The
interconnection will be made using the existing 30 pole cable and the 30 pole cable from kit.
In order to interconnect the interface, you have to follow-up the steps described below.
4.1 Opening the CID
The first step is to open the CID by unscrewed and taking off the four Torx screws on the rear
shielding plate (see Figure 4 CID Rear View, red arrows).

Figure 4 CID Rear View

Note:
The following work must be done with special care not to destroy the CID! You should
discharge yourself from electrostatic energy by touching e.g. the water pipe prior to open the
CID. Also you should not wear clothes that support charging with electrostatic energy like
wool pullovers etc.

After removing the rear shield plate of the CID you can see the CID-controller board and the
30-pole ribbon cable that connects the CID-TFT and CID-controller. It has to be spitted
(Figure 5 CID Controller Board View, red arrow).

Figure 5 CID Controller Board View

Next step is to take out the CID-controller boards and CID-TFT. In order to do that you must
first unplug the power connector for the TFT-display (if present) and flip the controller board
by 180° to the top as shown in Figure 6 CID Flipped Controller View.

CIDVI-AH 12

Figure 6 CID Flipped Controller View

Now you have to remove the next shielding plate by clicking it out from the 4 clamps marked
with the red arrows in Figure 6 CID Flipped Controller View and flip it carefully over the
controller board. After that you can see the 30-pole ribbon cable connected to the TFT-
display.
Now you have to pull out the 30-pole ribbon cable connected to the TFT-display by pushing
the brown slider of the connector away from the connector in parallel to unlock the ribbon
cable. This can be done with the fingertips of both hands. Then the original ribbon cable can
be pulled out of the connector with no force.
After that you can move to installation steps.

4.2 Installing the New 30-Pole Ribbon Cable

The new ribbon cable from the CIDVI-AH kit must be pushed into this connector and locked
with the brown slider by pushing it towards the connector. It is absolutely necessary to insert
the new ribbon cable into the connector in parallel until the end of its travel. It must not be
skewed, otherwise it might cause a short and destroy the CID!

Because the new ribbon cable is too long, it must be folded as shown in Figure 7 Folded
Ribbon Cable View. It does not harm the ribbon cable if it is folded. The free end of the
ribbon cable should near to the top of plastic frame approx. 3-4 cm in vertical position.

If this is done, the shielding plate can be inserted again and the new ribbon cable and the
power cord (if exist) of the TFT-display must be put through the holes of the shielding plate
as shown in Figure 8 Controller Shielding Plate View (red arrow).
The free end of the ribbon cable (approx. 1cm) can now be bended by 90° to horizontal
position.

Figure 8 Controller Shielding Plate View

Next step, the controller board of the CID can be inserted again. The original ribbon cable that
is still connected to the controller board must also be folded as shown in Figure 9 CID
Controller Board and Ribbon Cables (yellow arrow) to bring the open end directly bellow the
end if the new ribbon wire coming from the TFT-display.
After folding the original ribbon wire of the controller board, you should verify if it still sits
properly inside the connector and if it is not skewed.

4.3 Installing CID Interface Board

Before installing the CID-Interface board, you have to select the right screws available in the
kit. In general, the CID developed by Siemens has M3 torxs and the CID developed by Delphi
has M2.5.
Take the CID interface board from kit and put it over CID-controller board. Both ribbon
cables must be connected to the 30 poles female connectors of the CID-Interface:
 Insert the original controller board ribbon cable to K1 CID 30 poles socket (indicated
by blue arrow from Figure 10 CID Interface Board – K1 CID 30 Pole Female
Connector).
 Insert the TFT ribbon cable to K2 LCD connector, (indicated by yellow arrow from
Figure 11 CID Interface Board - K2 LCD 30 Pole Female Connector).

inserting the ribbon cables into the connectors, take care that they are not skewed and fully
inserted! Then push the slider back towards the connector to lock it.
The slider might not be locked properly in the middle, so it is recommended to push the
middle of the slider with a small screwdriver towards the connector to assure proper locking.

If this is done, put on the rear shielding plate carefully without moving the CID-Interface out
of its position (see pictures from Figure 12 Fitting CID Interface Board View). After that,
check if the ribbon cables are still locked into connectors.

Note:
These operations MUST BE performed very carefully because the female connectors can be
damage easy.

4.4 Preliminary Testing of the CID Interface

Reconnect both connectors available in car to the CID. Then, the CID must be pushed into its
original position for testing without be fixed and screwed with the four Torx-screws. Try to
connect an external video source from IPOD, PDA, etc to the 1st Video input RCA connector
for testing purpose.

In order to execute the first test run, you need to connect the car battery again. When opening
the driver’s door, the usual Opel-logo etc. should appear in the CID. Pay special attention to
the colors of the CID-display, they must not be strange or missing. Press and release shortly
the push button in order to switch the CID to display the 1st video input. Press again and select
the 2nd video input, and again to come back to the CID display.
If this test looks OK, the CID-Interface with its ribbon cables seems to be installed correctly
and the battery must be disconnected again to continue the installation.
If you do not see any picture on the CID LCD-TFT even after switching on the ignition or the
colors are not displayed correctly or the selected video input are not displayed, the CID has to
be removed again for rechecking. You have to remove the CID rear shield plate and reconnect
the cables just for testing purpose as indicated in Figure 15 Video and Control Cables. Please
refer to Chapter Troubleshooting

Figure 15 Video and Control Cables

If the first test was successful and the battery was disconnected again, remove the interface
connectors from CID and go to installation and wiring of video devices and CIDVI-AH
interface.

4.5 Wiring CID Interface and Video Devices

4.5.1 Multi-Functions Push Button
Install and wire it according to diagram presented in Figure 2 Wiring Diagram. The best
position is in the up-left corner of the middle console frame, but it can be fitted any ware in
dash. The hole for fitting the button is Φ16mm (see Figure 16 Push Button Dimensions).

Figure 16 Push Button Dimensions

After that, you can wire the backlight of button (labeled LED Dimming) to the Led Dimming
signal available on the socket of centre console frame (see Figure 17 Centre Console Frame,
red arrow). Thus, the button backlight is connected together with the lights from middle
console.

4.5.2 Rear View Camera

Install the Rear View Camera and wire it according to diagram presented in Figure 2 Wiring
Diagram. You may use a camera that fit into license plate lamp. Typically, the rear view
camera should be powered with +12V from right or left reversing lamp signals. Use car
chassis mass as ground for rear view camera. This will configure your camera for power and
operation when the car is placed in reverse only (See the Figure

Figure 18 Wiring Rear View Camera

Note:
For new Opel/Vauxhall cars, the power supply for backup light (including reversing light) is
like a pulsing voltage (using PWM) increasing the bulb life. It will affect the video signal from
rear view camera, mainly when the engine is running. The best option is to power the rear
view camera from a stable power supply (e.g cigarette), eventually through a relay powered
from reversing lamp. The ground for camera should be from the chassis mass.
CIDVI-AH 24

OPEL & VAUXHALL CID VIDEO INTERFACE ASTRA H / ZAFIRA B / CORSA D / ANTARA

Other option is to use an Insulation Transformer with filtering inductor and capacitor
between reversing light and camera power supply.

4.5.3 Front View Camera

Find good place, somewhere in the front of car, for installation of Front View Camera. It
should be powered from parking lamp left or right signals. There could be the same issue like
for rear view camera (use similar options).
The power supply should be active only while the engine is running or to have the option to
turn it on/off. Pull the video cable from the camera to Video Input #1(CVBS).
By default, the front view camera functionality is disabled. Follow the below steps in order to
enable the front view camera.
1. Turn off the power of front view camera
2. Start the Automatic Inputs scanning (see Section 3.1 Standard Control
Functions)
3. Turn on the power of front view camera
4. Change the gear to reverse. The interface should switch and display the screen
from rear view camera.
5. Change the gear to forward. The interface should switch and display the screen
from front view camera. After approximate 20s, the interface will switch back to
previous screen before to change gear to reverse.

Note:
The front view camera is working only in relation to rear view camera. For testing, you need
to have rear view camera connected.

Note:
For video devices that need ignition signal, the power supply wire could be connected to
pin#15 and ACC could be connected to pin#13 as indicated in Figure 19 Head Unit Pinouts.

After this is done and the video equipments and cables are connected as indicated in Figure 2
Wiring Diagram, the battery can be connected again to perform a proper functional test of the
CIDVI-AH kit.

4.6 Full Testing of CID Interface

Start through selecting the first videos source input (see descriptions from Section 3). Change
the source video TV system in order to check both PAL and NTSC. The screen should change
the mode automatically. The recommendation is to use the same mode for both video inputs.

After that, select the second video input source. If there is not connected other video signal
then the same screen will be displayed. Press again and move to the CID information.
Turn the ignition ON, start the engine and change gear to reverse. Automatically, the screen
should display the rear view camera, if it’s available. After releasing the change gear, the
screen should display back the previous image.
Make a call from another phone to the mobile phone connected to the Opel car kit. When the
phone starts to ring, the screen should switch automatically to the CID screen and display the
caller name from the phone tab. It’s working only for Opel car kits connected to CID through
CAN.
If all these tests were successful, go and finish the installation of CID with console and EHU.

5.6 Calibration Procedure

When an image is displayed at a resolution other than the recommended one for the LCD
monitor, a border (a dark part in which no image is displayed) may appear around the image
depending upon the setting of the monitor’s screen size. On such a screen, the touched point
may not be aligned with the cursor position. The optimal resolution for CID LCD-TFT is
800x600 full screen.
Lunch the TouchKit utility and follow the steps listed in the Touchkit Software Installation
Guide. Perform all the calibration
Enjoy the touch!
