PM launched Swachhata Hi Seva movement across the country
• On September 15, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 2 hour 'Swachhata Hi
Seva' movement though video conference to 17 locations across the country to ensure the goal
of achieving ‘Swachhata’ within the targeted deadline: Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth
anniversary on October 2, 2019.
'Revitalising India as a Heritage Destination': Rajasthan held convention on preserving
heritage properties
• On September 13-14, 2018, Rajasthan government held a two-day convention
on 'Revitalising India as a Heritage Destination' to focus on preserving heritage properties
in Bharatpur, Rajasthan to promote heritage tourism and preserve heritage. It was
organized by Indian Heritage Hotels Association.
Power Ministry launches Chiller Star Labelling Program on energy efficiency in chillers.
• On September 14, 2018, Ministry of Power launched the Chiller Star Labelling
Program in New Delhi to encourage the deployment of Energy Efficient chiller systems in
the country. It will be valid upto 31st December 2020. This has been launched ahead of the
occasion of 24th World Ozone Day and the 31st Anniversary of Montreal Protocol, which will
be observed on 16th September 2018.
Rajasthan's forest minister inaugurates state's first lion safari at Nahargarh Biological Park
• On 13th September 2018, Rajasthan Forest Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar inaugurated
Rajasthan’s first lion safari at Nahargarh Biological Park. The park is located on the Delhi-
Jaipur National Highway in the Aravalli foothills.This service will be available for visitors
from October 2018.
Uttarakhand ranked best among states in constructing roads under PMGSY
• On September 14, 2018, Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar awarded
chief engineer of the Uttarakhand Rural Road Development Agency (URRDA) for
making Uttarakhand the best among States in the country under PMGSY, in New Delhi.The

award was for the construction of maximum number of roads under the PMGSY during 2017-
2018.
AP Govt launches website to tackle unemployment under Yuva Nestam scheme
• On September 14, 2018, the Andhra Pradesh government announced the start of an
unemployment allowance as part of Yuva Nestam scheme for the state's youth from October
2018.CM launched website yuvanestham.ap.gov.in where candidates can register.
Sushma Swaraj & Yogi Adityanath inaugurate website for 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2019
• On 15th September 2018, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj and Uttar Pradesh
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the website for the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
(PBD) 2019 that will be held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The website is available

Diaspora in building a New India'.
Maharashtra tops the 14th HIV Estimations 2017 report: NACO
• On September 14, 2018, according to the 14th report "HIV Estimations 2017" released
by Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Maharashtra has the highest number of people living
with HIV in India. It was compiled by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) in
collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-National Institute of Medical
Statistics (NIMS) .
Swayangsiddha: scheme to combat human trafficking launched by West Bengal government
• On September 15, 2018, the West Bengal government rolled out scheme, Swayangsiddha, in its
different districts to combat human trafficking Swayangsiddha means self-reliance, will be
executed by the West Bengal Police.
J&K declared Open Defecation Free on the eve of “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign
• On September 16, 2018, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik declared the state open
defecation free (ODF) at the launch of "Swachhata Hi Seva" campaign at the Sher-i-Kashmir
International Conference Centre (SKICC).
First ever dedicated dog park was constructed in Hyderabad
• On September 12, 2018, for the first time in India a dedicated dog park has been set up
in Hyderabad. It was developed by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at a cost
of Rs 1.1 crore. It has also been certified by the Kennel Club of India.
‘Swacch Dhara’ programme for clean water flagged off in Amaravati
• On September 15, 2018, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu flagged off
the 'Swachh Dhara' programme at Amravati to provide clean drinking water across the state.
CM launched the ‘Yuva Nestham’ scheme providing Rs.1000 as allowance to unemployed youth
between 25-35 years of age.
HM Rajnath Singh inaugurates pilot project of smart fencing along Indo-Pak Border in Jammu
• On 17th September 2018, India's first 'smart fence' pilot project was inaugurated by Union
Home Minister Rajnath Singh along the Indo-Pak border at the Border Security Force (BSF)
frontier headquarters in Ploura, Jammu. The pliot project has been launched as a part of the
Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) programme of BSF.
NHA launched website & helpline number for Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries
• On September 17, 2018, a website and a helpline number of the Ayushman Bharat — National
Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) was launched by the National Health Agency (NHA) to

Government of India inaugurates the All India Pension Adalat


• On 18th September 2018, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North-
Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy
and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the ‘Pension Adalat’. Dr Jitendra Singh also
presented the ‘Anubhav’ awards 2018 to 6 pensioners for their contribution to create
institutional memory for the departments.
Harsh Vardhan releases draft India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP)
• On 17th September 2018, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr.
Harsh Vardhan, released the draft India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) and a booklet on ‘Montreal
Protocol – India’s Success Story’. An improved website on the Ozone Cell of the Ministry and a
Management Information System (MIS) for Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) were also
launched.
Mr Ahluwalia launches C-DAC Information Media Server (CIMS)
• S.S. Ahluwalia, Minister of State for Electronics and IT has launched C-DAC Information Media
Server (CIMS) for improving Good Governance. C-DAC Information Media Server is a dedicated
computer appliance with specialized application software that will offer audio and video on
demand.
Indo-German collaboration in vocational education and training
• On 18th September 2018, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) in
the area of vocational education and training.
Seoul Metropolitan government & Delhi government ink pact to share expertise on 12 fields
• On September 15, 2018, state government of Delhi and Seoul Metropolitan Government inked
a “Friendship and Cooperation Agreement” pact on cooperation in 12 fields. The MOU include
the following fields:Environment, transport, tourism, solid waste management and public
health.
India – Morocco Tourism Bilateral meeting held in New Delhi
• On September 17, 2018, a bilateral meeting on Tourism Cooperation between India and
Morocco was held in New Delhi. MOU between the India Tourism Development
Corporationand La Societe Marocaine D’Ingenierie Touristique, also known as Moroccan
Agency for Tourism development (SMIT).
3-day First-ever global India Tourism Mart held in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi
• On September 16-18, 2018, the 3-day ‘first ever’ India Tourism Mart (ITM 2018) was
inaugurated by Union Minister for Railways and Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal in New Delhi To create
an annual Global Tourism Mart for India. It was organized by Ministry of Tourism in
partnership with the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH) and
State /UT Governments.
2 unique projects including Local Treatment of Urban Sewage Streams for Healthy Reuse
project inaugurated by S&T minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in Delhi
• On September 18, 2018, Union Science & Technology minister Dr. Harsh
Vardhan inaugurated 2 projects Local Treatment of Urban Sewage Streams for Healthy Reuse
(LOTUSHR) project and 2 bio toilets supported by DBT-BIRAC and the Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation at Sun Dial Park in New Delhi to re-convert waste water to clean water and
contribute in cleanliness drive of Swachh Bharat.

First-ever 'dial-FIR' scheme launched by Uttar Pradesh Police


• On September 17, 2018, the UP police launched the ‘e-FIR’ or ‘dial-FIR’ scheme for the first
time in the country to help the citizens lodge a report and FIR online It would be made possible
by the collection of photographic data of 1 lakh small and big criminals through the
new 22,000 ipads.
MOU between Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir on the Shahpur Kandi project
• On September 8, 2018, the governments of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir signed an
agreement for renewing work on Rs. 2793 crore Shahpurkandi dam project. Punjab
government would pay Rs.115 crore for land acquisition and the project would be completed
by 2021.
Cyclone-30 became operational at Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata
• On September 18, 2018, Cyclone-30, the biggest cyclotron in India for medical application
became operational in at VECC, Kolkata. It is under the Department of Atomic Energy
(DAE) and will be commissioned in 2019 to provide for affordable radio isotopes and related
radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic use for cancer care.

PM Modi’s 2-day visit to Varanasi
• On September 17, 2018, PM Narendra Modi went on a 2-day visit to his parliamentary
constituency Varanasi for development of Varanasi to make it the gateway to Eastern
India.Prime Minister also reached Varanasi on the occasion of his 68th birthday. A coffee-table
book titled "Narendra Modi: A Charismatic & Visionary Statesman" written by BJP president
Amit Shah was released.
Union Home Secretary launched ‘e-Sahaj’ portal for grant of Security Clearance
• On September 18, 2018, the Union Home Secretary Shri Rajiv Gauba launched an online ‘e-
Sahaj’ portal in New Clearance.This will provide an easier, faster and transparent way to

Government & FAO launched agriculture project in 5 states with $33.5 million GEF grant
• On September 18, 2018, the government along with UN body FAO launched an agricultural
project worth USD 33.5 million on conservation of biodiversity and forest landscapes.The
project, to be implemented in five landscape in Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, Rajasthan
and Uttarakhand.
Odisha CM launches star-rating system for industries to reduce air pollution
• Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has launched a 'Star Rating program' for industries to
support State Pollution Control Board's (SPCB) regulatory efforts to reduce pollution.This

program is the first in India to use continuous monitored emissions data obtained in real time
from major industrial plants.
Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurates ISRO's Technology Incubation Centre in Agartala
• On 18th September 2018, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurated the Indian
Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Technology Incubation Centre in Agartala, through video-
conferencing from Bengaluru. It was launched at the 1st edition of 'SPACETRONICS' organised
by the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).
Maharashtra Government to set up new Cyber University
• On September 18, 2018, the Maharashtra government announced the proposal of construction
of new Cyber University to mitigate cyber threats.Estimated cost for the phase I of the project
is Rs.80 crore.
PM laid the foundation stone of world class convention centre in Dwarka,NewDelhi
• On September 20, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of
India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) in Dwarka,Delhi.The estimated cost of
the project is: Rs 25,703 crore.
President Ram Nath Kovind signed ordinance banning Instant Triple Talaq practice: Law
Ministry
• On September 19, 2018, the Law Ministry announced the signing of the ordinance banning the
practice of instant triple talaq by the President. The name of the bill is: The Muslim Women
(Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017.
‘Budget Dashboard’: web portal for information on budget and expenditure introduced by
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
• On September 19, 2018, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched a new web portal
‘Budget Dashboard’, incorporating features of Ministry of AYUSH and Department of Health
Research. It will have information on budget, expenditure and Bill Payment position.
MSME Insider - Monthly e-Newsletter launched by MSME ministry
• On September 19, 2018, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Micro,
Small and Medium Enterprises, Giriraj Singh, launched MSME Insider – a monthly e-newsletter
of the Ministry. It will act as a bridge between the Ministry and MSME units and stakeholders.
Pilot project of sputum sample transportation through Department of Post launched by Health
Ministry
• On September 19, 2018, the Health Ministry launched a pilot service of transportation
of sputum sample used for TB diagnosis through the Department of Posts in Karawal
Nagar, Delhi. Along with this, the 2nd version of web-based application of RNTCP, Nikshay
Version 2.0 was launched.
India and Morocco signed Air Services Agreement enabling greater connectivity
• On September 19, 2018, , India and Morocco signed a revised Air Services Agreement to enable
greater connectivity. This will enable greater freedom and more direct flights and strengthen
economic and cultural ties in the process.
Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna launched for unemployed insured persons: ESIC
• On September 20, 2018, the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) approved a new
scheme- Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna for Insured Persons covered under the Employees’
State Insurance Act. The decision was taken at the ESIC board meeting chaired by the Labour
Minister Santosh Gangwar in New Delhi.

Newly-built Jharsuguda airport to be renamed after noted freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai:

• On September 19, 2018, the state assembly of Odisha passed a unanimous resolution to name
the newly-built Jharsuguda airport after noted freedom fighter Veer Surendra Sai. Jharsuguda
airport will be the second airport in Odisha to be renamed after Biju Patnaik International
airport in Bhubaneswar.
MHA signs MoU with ISRO to set up an Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response
• On September 21, 2018, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Indian Space Research
Organization (ISRO), Department of Space signed an MOU for setting up of Integrated Control
Room for Emergency Response (ICR-ER) in Ministry of Home Affairs. The MoU was signed by
Joint Secretary (Disaster Management) Shri Sanjeev Kumar Jindal and Dr P.V.N Rao, Deputy
Director, NRSC, ISRO.
Health Ministry partners with Dell and Tata Trusts to provide technology solution for a
nationwide healthcare program
• On September 21, 2018, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare signed MoUs with the Tata
Trusts and Dell to provide a technological platform for nationwide prevention, control,
screening and management program of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs).Dell helped in the
development of the technology platform as technology partner andTATA helped in the
implementation support of the NCD programme as deployment partner.
Union Government launched India’s first National Registry of Sexual Offenders and several
initiatives for sexual violence against women and children
• On September 21, 2018, the Union Government released a National Database of Sexual
Offenders (NDSO) in New Delhi. It was launched by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.India
thus became the 9th nation to have a registry of this kind.Home Minister also launched
the Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC) portal “cybercrime.gov.in”
to check objectionable online content.
ANI, WAM signed MoU for bilateral cooperation in area of free news exchange
• On September 21, 2018, Asian News International, ANI and Emirates News Agency, WAM, the
official news agency of the UAE government has signed an MoU, for bilateral cooperation in the
area of the free news exchange in Abu Dhabi.
Tamil Nadu govt announced scheme for the protection of the exotic Neela Kurinji plants
• On September 21, 2018, Tamil Nadu government announced scheme for the protection of the
exotic Neela kurinji (Strobilanthus kunthianus) plants in Nilagiri district of Tamilnadu.These
plants flower only once in 12 years.The Neela Kurinju is a native to the Western Ghats.
Gujarat govt doubled farmers' accident insurance amounts costing it Rs.70 crore
• On September 21, 2018, the Gujarat government increase in insurance cover compensation for
farmers in the event of accidental death or disability. The increased premium will be borne by
the state government costing it more than Rs.70 crore.
Gujarat Government forms panel to probe crop insurance complaints
• On 20th September 2018, Gujarat government announced the formation of a committee to look
into the complaints of farmers who have not received timely compensation for crop loss. The
committee includes Gujarat Agriculture Minister R C Faldu. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin
Patel and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will directly supervise the committee.

First ever Mizoram International Short Film Festival (MISFF) in Aizawl


• On 20th September 2018, the first-ever Mizoram International Short Film Festival (MISFF) was
inaugurated by Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla at the Aijal Club in Aizawl, Mizoram. At
the inaugural event, Gulshan Grover's short film 'Forbidden' was screened. This is the first of
its kind film festival in Mizoram.

Arunachal introduces 'Smart e-Public Distribution System', developed by Madras Security

• Arunachal Pradesh becomes the first State in North East India to introduce Smart e-Public
Distribution System (e-PDS), a solution developed by the Madras Security Printers, a company
specializing in system integration and solutions for e-governance projects. Deputy
Commissioner (DC) Prince Dhawan introduced the Smart Ration Cards (SRCs)
Meghalaya cabinet approves final draft of the state Education Policy, 2018
• On 21st September 2018, Meghalaya cabinet approved the final draft of the state Education
Policy, 2018,after 46 years of statehood,that aims to address issues related to the education
sector. The policy also addresses the problem of having different categories of schools and
teachers in Meghalaya.

• On September 22, 2018, PM Modi visited Odisha and inaugurated Talcher Fertilizer
Plant located at Talcher, Angul district in Odisha. On September 22, 2018, PM Modi
reached Chhattisgarh and inaugurated two projects of National Highway Authority of India in

• On September 11, 2018, according to UN's annual multi-agency flagship report on the State of
Food Security and Nutrition in the World, hunger remains the same as was ten years ago
in2017.This is a part of UNDP’s Sustainable Development goal: Zero Hunger by 2030.
India ranks 130 out of 189 in human development index : UNDP
• On September 14, 2018, India climbed one spot to 130 out of 189 countries in the latest human
development rankings released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
India’s HDI value for 2017 is 0.640, which put the country in the medium human development
category.India’s HDI value is above the South Asian average of 0.638.
Jaipur Literature Festival held in Houston
• On 14th and 15th September 2018, Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) was held in Houston, Texas,
United States. Jaipur Literature Festival which is conducted since 2006, is held in Jaipur every
year. This is the first time it is held in Houston.
India ranked 3rd in family-owned businesses: CSRI
• On September 16, 2018, according to the ‘Credit Suisse Family 1000 in 2018’ study, published
by Credit Suisse Research Institute (CSRI), India ranked third globally in terms of number of
family-owned companies. Korea came in fourth place, with 43 companies followed
by Indonesia in the 5th place.
Union Trade Minister Suresh Prabhu participated in 2-day G-20 trade ministers meeting in
Argentina
• On September 14-15, 2018, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh
Prabhu participated in the 2-day G-20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting, held in Mar
del Plata in Argentina to discuss developments in international trade and its implications for
the global economy. The theme for the G-20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting was:
"Building Consensus for Fair and Sustainable Development".

• On 17th September 2018, Germany launched the world’s first hydrogen-powered train with

Bremerhaven, Bremervoerde and Buxtehude in northern Germany.

warehouse in Dambulla
• On 17th September 2018, India and Sri Lanka signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
for construction of a 5000-metric ton temperature controlled warehouse in Dambulla, Sri
Lanka.The MoU was signed by: Mr. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri
Lanka and Mr. K.D.S. Ruwanchandra, Secretary to Sri Lankan ministry of national policies and

operations in a bi-lateral scenario. It is being conducted at Lipetsk, Russia. The aircraft that

• National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has approved Rs 65,634.93
crore loan so far to 93 prioritised irrigation projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai
Yojana (PMKSY). NABARD is funding the central and state share of 99 prioritised irrigation
projects under PMKSY through long term irrigation fund (LTIF).

Interest rates of small savings schemes hiked: PPF and NSC to give 8%, senior citizens to get

• On September 20, 2018, the interest rates of the small savings scheme was increased for
the third quarter (October 1 to December 31) by up to 40 bps.These changes will be effective
from October 1, 2018.This is the first such change after keeping interest rates on small savings

Tax Dept. slapped YES Bank with Rs 38 crore in GST fines for violating domestic remittances

India’s growth forecast increased to 7.8 per cent for financial year 2019: Fitch

INMAS after 20 years of work.
EyeROV TUNA: India’s first underwater robotic drone launched and handed over to NPOL
• On September 15, 2018, India’s first underwater robotic drone -EyerovTUNA was launched
and handed over to the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) of DRDO. It was
developed by EyeROV Technologies at Maker Village.It is the first commercial Remotely
Operated Vehicle (ROV)/ underwater drone and was supported by Kerala Start up Mission
(KSUM).
Vijaya: Indian Coast Guard commissions indigenously built patrol vessel
• On September 15, 2018, Indian Coast Guard Ship Vijaya, the second in the series of 98
m offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), was commissioned by Defence Secretary Sanjay
Mitra in Chennai. It has been designed and built indigenously by Larsen & Toubro.
ICESAT-2: satellite launched to track Earth’s melting ice by NASA
• On September 15, 2018, NASA launched it’s Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESAT-
2) successfully from California on United Launch Alliance’s final Delta II rocket to estimate the
annual height change of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets to within four millimeters
ISRO's PSLV-C-42 launched two U.K. satellites NovaSAR and S1-4
• On September 16, 2018, ISRO launched its first night flight launch of PSLV-C-42 with two U.K.
satellites named NovaSAR and S1-4 of Surrey Satellite Technology Limited.This launch was
collaboration between Surrey Satellite Technologies Limited and Antrix Corporation
Limited, ISRO's commercial arm which earned Rs.220 crore for this launch.
Isro unveils Polarimetry Doppler Weather Radar at Sriharikota spaceport
• On September 16, 2018, Dr. K Sivan, Secretary, DOS/Chairman, ISRO inaugurated an S–
band Polarimetry Doppler Weather Radar at SDSC/ISRO,Sriharikota.This is the 7th Radar
manufactured in the country under “Make in India” Concept. It was indigenously developed
by Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore under Technology Transfer from ISRO.
ISRO and CNES of France plan constellation of 8-10 satellites for maritime surveillance: CNES
• On September 17, 2018, India and France inked pact for maritime surveillance through a
constellation of 8-10 satellites on the Indian Ocean region to monitor sea traffic management.
This will be India's largest space cooperation with any country.
MPATGM: man-portable anti-tank guided missile successfully tested by DRDO
• On September 16, 2018, the Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully
tested a low-weight indigenously developed man-portable anti-tank guided missile (MPATGM)

Prahar: indigenously developed surface-to-surface short-range ballistic missile test fired by
DRDO
• On 20th September 2018, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)
successfully flight tested the indigenously developed surface-to-surface short-range ballistic
missile ‘Prahar’, from Launch Complex-III, Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in
Odisha. It is a contemporary weapon system. It can carry various types of warheads and
neutralise a wide range of targets.
NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) discovers two new Earth-like planets:
“super-Earth” and “hot Earth”
• NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite
(TESS) has discovered two new earth-like exoplanets namely: “super-Earth” and “hot Earth”.It
is a one year mission worth $337 million. This is TESS’s first discovery.
Japanese businessman Yusaku Maezawa to become the first private moon tourist
• Yusaku Maezawa, a Japanese businessman, will be the first private moon tourist, to fly on Big
Falcon Rocket (BFR) of SpaceX around the Moon in 2023. He will be the first lunar traveler
since the last US Apollo mission in 1972.
ISRO setting up third launch pad at Sriharikota for Gaganyaan mission
• On Sept 21.The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is setting up a third launch pad at
Sriharikota,Andhra Pradesh to undertake the Gaganyaan manned space flight programme.The
third launch pad is set up for human space flight.

• On 11th September 2018, India lost the 5th and final Test against England by 118 runs at the
Oval Stadium, in England. England team won the test series against India by a 4-1
margin. India continues to be at the number 1 position in the latest ICC (International Cricket
Council) Test Team Rankings even after the 4-1 series loss against England.
Former England wicket-keeper James Foster retires from cricket
• Former England wicket-keeper James Foster has announced his retirement from all forms
of cricket at the end of the ongoing season. James Foster is 38 years old. He has played 7 Tests,
11 one-day internationals and five Twenty20 Internationals for England between 2001 and
2009.
Former England cricket captain Paul Collingwood announces retirement
• Former England cricket captain Paul Collingwood, has announced that, he will retire from
cricket at the end of the ongoing domestic season. Paul Collingwood had retired from Test
cricket in 2011.

• On 15th September 2018, India lost to Maldives in the final and Maldives won the SAFF (South
Asian Football Federation) Cup 2018, at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka,
Bangladesh.
32nd Ahmet Comert Boxing Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey
• From 10th to 16th September 2018, 32nd Ahmet Comert Boxing Tournament was held
in Istanbul, Turkey. Indian women boxers won a total of 7 medals: 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
Indian women's team finished second in the tournament. India’s Bhagyabati Kachari received
the most scientific boxer of the tournament award.
2018 Japan Open (badminton) tournament
• From 11th to 16th September 2018, 2018 Japan Open (badminton) tournament also known as
Daihatsu Yonex Japan Open 2018 was held at Musashino Forest Sports Plaza in Tokyo, Japan.
This tournament was organized by Nippon Badminton Association and sanctioned by the BWF
(Badminton World Federation).
Hangzhou in China to host 2022 Asian Para Games
• On 16th September 2018, Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) confirmed that Hangzhou in
China will host the 4th edition of Asian Para Games in 2022 and already, Hangzhou was
confirmed as the host of 2022 Asian Games.
German insurers Allianz sign up with IOC as Olympic sponsor for 10 years
• On September 18, 2018, German insurer Allianz signed up as a global Olympic sponsor for a 4-
Games period of 10 years between 2021 and 2028. The insurer will become the IOC's 14th top
sponsor. It would start from 2019 and with a pilot project in four key markets: Australia,
China, France and Spain.
Lewis Hamilton wins Singapore Grand Prix (Formula One racing)
• On 16th September 2018, Lewis Hamilton won the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Street
Circuit, in Singapore. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won the 1st position. He was followed by Red
Bull’s Max Verstappen in the 2nd spot. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel finished in the 3rd place.
Medved International Wrestling tournament at Minsk, Belarus
• From 14th to 16th September 2018, Medved International Wrestling tournament was held in
Minsk, Belarus. Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik won a silver medal in the 62 kg category, as she
lost to Hungary's Marianna Sastin 2-6 in the final.Also, India’s Pooja Dhanda won
a Bronze medal in the 57 kg category.
Kenyan marathon master Eliud Kipchoge smashes world record
• On 16th September 2018, Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge created a new marathon world record by
clocking 2hr 1min 39sec, in Berlin, Germany. Eliud Kipchoge has broken Dennis Kimetto’s
previous record of 2hr 2min 57sec set on the same course 4 years ago, by his new record of 2hr
1min 39sec. The total race distance was 42.195km.

• On 21st September 2018, India won silver medal in the Asian Team Snooker
Championship in Doha. India lost to Pakistan 2-3 in the final of the Asian Team Snooker
Championship.
India to host AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi
• AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships will be hosted by India from 13-25 November
2018 in New Delhi. The first edition of AIBA women's world championship was held in
Scranton, Unites States in 2001.
Vaishali Narendra Salavkar will be India’s first female blind chess player at World Chess
Olympiad
• Blind chess player Vaishali Narendra Salavkar will become the first Indian female to be part of
the International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) team at the world chess Olympiad that will
be held in Batumi, Georgia, from September 23, 2018.
Belgium joins France in number 1 spot in FIFA rankings with top spot shared for first time

• Belgium has joined France in number one position on the FIFA (International Federation of
Association Football) rankings released on 20th September 2018. This is the first time in the
25-year history of FIFA rankings, the first spot is shared.

Former Union petroleum minister Satya Prakash Malviya passes away
• On 16th September 2018, former Union petroleum minister Satya Prakash Malaviya passed
away after fighting prostate cancer in Delhi. He was a former Union petroleum minister.
Former Odisha minister Dolagobinda Pradhan passes away
• On 17th September 2018, freedom fighter and former Odisha Minister Dolagobinda
Pradhan died at his home following a short term illness, in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.Dolagobinda
Pradhan was 93 years old. He was born on June 7, 1929 in Dihasahi of Cuttack, Odisha.
He was a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942.
Ganpatrao Andalka, the former Asian Games champion wrestler, passed away in Pune
• On September 18, 2018, former Asian Games champion wrestler Ganpatrao Andalka (83),
passed away in Pune. He participated in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and had bagged the coveted
“Hind Kesari” title in 1960.

Independent India's first woman IAS officer Anna Rajam Malhotra dead
• On 17th September 2018, India’s first woman IAS officer post-Independence, Anna Rajam
Malhotra, passed away at her home in Andheri, Mumbai.Anna Rajam Malhotra was 91 years
old. She was born as Anna Rajam George in Ernakulum, Kerala, in July 1927. In 1989, she
received the Padma Bhushan award.
Revolutionary leader Kondapalli Koteswaramma passes away
• On 19th September 2018, revolutionary leader, writer and feminist Kondapalli
Koteswaramma passed away, following a brain hemorrhage, in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra
Pradesh. She had played an active role in the Telangana Rebellion (1946-1951). She had
written her autobiography named 'Nirjana Varadhi' and three other books.
Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang Dies at 61
• On 21st September 2018, Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang,61 died due to a serious illness, in
Hanoi, Vietnam. He became the President of Vietnam in April 2016.
Former Air Marshal Randhir Singh passes away at 97
• On 18th September 2018, former Air Marshal Randhir Singh died following a short term illness
in Chandigarh. He was 97 years old. He was a highly decorated Indian Air Force veteran.
Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passes away at 64
• On 23rd September 2018, filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passed away after she had suffered from
chronic kidney disease and liver failure, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Kalpana Lajmi was 64 years
old. She was a director, producer and screenwriter.

• On September 17, 2018, the Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge) and
Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Mahesh Sharma released two important

Bulletin Number 10 of the National Museum in New Delhi.
Sundeep Misra to write a book on sprinter Dutee Chand titled “Story So Far”
• On 18th September 2018, Westland Books announced that, journalist, author and
filmmaker Sundeep Misra, would write a book on sprinter Dutee Chand, who won two silver
