Cause Connected a scan tool and found cades: P1637 - Generator L Terminal Circult and P1638 - Generator F Terminal Circuit, Used @ mult-meter to measure the voltage across the battery terminals and found the measured voltage ‘was below the specified range. Connected a battery charger and charged the battery. Used a battery conductance tester to test the battery and found the battery was able to conduct the specified amount of current, which verified it ‘operated properly. Used an alternator load tester to test the altemator by placing the battery under load, raised the ‘engine speed to 1,500 RPM, and found the measured alternator output was below the specified minimum ‘amperage. At idle, used the scan tool to moritor live data and found the F terminal parameter was below specifications. Disconnected the alternator connector, started the engine, used a mult-meter measure the voltage at the altemator hamess connector and found the measured voltage was within specifications. Tumed off the ignition, Used the muli-meter to measure the voltage at the underhood battery junction box and at the alternator harness connector, and found the measured voltages were within one volt of each other as specified. The results of these tests verified the alternator was faulty, Correction Replaced the altemator, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly.
