LMPN | Objective
What?
To make Bengaluru accessible to pedestrians.
To design the development of safe and comfortable last
mile connectivity from public transport hubs to existing
residential and commercial settlements.

Why?
• To reduce the dependency on vehicles for short distance
commutes.
• To make public transport the most convienient method
of long distance commute for all classes.

LMPN | Case Study - Byappanhalli Junction

Byappanhalli is a junction on Old Madras

Road.

It is fed by ABD, East Bangalore and South

Bangalore districts.

It connects the city center to the peripheral

districts of east and north Bangalore.

develop this route first.
Serves two high density vehicular and
pedestrian generators, SG Palya and

SG Palya has grown rapidly in the last
decade since a tech park opened less than
500m away.

Shops, restaurants, apartments, and paying

guest accomodations have appeared amidst
the already existing population.

Currently there’s a pavement on both

sides and cars are parked haphazardly,
sometimes creating bottlenecks for
moving traffic.

We propose converting the pavement

on left side to a dedicated parking,
and having the right side pavement
merge with the proposed pedestrian
network.

Challenges
1. Development of design and detailed look
into the best possible solution.
2. Social impact assessment.
3.Citizen awareness and political will.
4. Stakeholder management.

37 Bangalore Walks
Benefits
1. Projected reduction in traffic congestion
2. Improving livability in the area
3. Safer spaces for children, women and the aged
4. Testing a prototype to see potential for scalability
across Bangalore

38 Bangalore Walks
Vision
We hope to develop the selected stretch as a prototype.

We expect it to have a big impact on the reduction of vehicular

congestion while improving the quality of life and the livability of
the neighbourhood.

One day, we hope it will be possible to go from Whitefield to

Malleshwaram by walk without a single person vehicle conflict,
through a network of parks, paths and public spaces.
