Pelites or mudstones: with fragments less than 0.062 mm, that is, the size of silt or clay,
particles smaller than 0.0039 millimeters. rocks formed by very fine grain. Silt and clay
represent at least 50% of the material that compose them. There are several
classification schemes, but most are based on the grain size of the main constituents.
When they are little consolidated, they are called shales, which are generally silt and
clay.4 In geology, a mixture of silt and clay is called mud. When they are more
consolidated, they are called clay shales or flattened shales
For the classification Boggs divides them into four main categories, minerals, accessory
minerals, rock fragments and chemical sediments.
The main minerals can be classified into subdivisions based on their resistance to
chemical decomposition. Those that have a great resistance to decomposition are
classified as stable, while those that do not consider themselves less stable. Quartz The
most stable common mineral in the clastic sedimentites is quartz
