Lesson Idea Name: The Water Cycle

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): 4th Grade
Content Standard Addressed: S4E3. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to demonstrate the
water cycle.

Technology Standard Addressed: Digital Citizen. Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and
opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Those with hearing impairments will be able to watch the movie/video
with subtitles. ESOL students will be able to watch the movie/video with subtitles in their native language;
this will also help them learn English as they will be reading the words in their language and hearing the
words in English.
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher will create a video on the water cycle to their class. The teacher could also use this video as an
online-lesson idea. This video will be played for the students and in introduction to learning about the water
cycle.
After viewing the video, the teacher will divide her students into groups and assign them a different part of
the water cycle (evaporation, condensation, precipitation, transpiration). The students will then create their
own movie using iMovie covering their assigned topic. These videos will be presented in front of the whole
class so all students will have knowledge of all different parts of the water cycle. We can also post these
videos on the class blog so that parents and absent students can view them. The teacher will provide
feedback by grading the video project using a rubric.
Importance of technology: This lesson idea cannot be completed with the absence of a multimedia tool that
has access to iMovie or another movie-making tool/app. Without technology, students would not be able to
complete this assignment. Incorporating technology in your lesson also increases the LoTi level.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Before posting videos on the class blog, we will make sure that we will
follow all school and district policies regarding interments safety and student privacy. The teacher shall seek
permission from both administration and parents before publically posting these videos to the internet. We
can either remove the students names off of their video project before posting them on the blog, only include

their first name, or post them on a password protected page so only parents and students will be able to view
them.
Reflective Practice: I believe this lesson will impact student learning as it is an interactive yet educational
project where students get to play with different forms of multimedia such as audio, video, pictures, etc. and
use those tools to get creative and make their own movie.
