Come, all ye faithful,

joyful and triumphant

O come ye, O come ye,

to Bethlehem

Come and behold Him,

born the King of angels

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord

Yea, Lord, we greet Thee,

born this happy morning

Jesus, to Thee be all glory given

Word of the Father,

now in flesh appearing

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord

True God of true God,

Light from Light eternal

Humbly, He enters the virgin’s womb

Son of the Father,

begotten, not created

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord

Come, All Ye Faithful

Glory be to God on high

Let peace on earth descend

God comes down before our eyes

To Bethlehem

God invisible appears

Endless ages wrapped in years

He has come who cannot change

And Jesus is His name

Emptied of His majesty

He comes in human form

Being’s source begins to be

And God is born

All our griefs He’ll gladly share

All our sins He’ll fully bear

He will cover our disgrace

And suffer in our place

Let the joyful news ring out

The Prince of Peace proclaim

Lift your heart and voice to shout

Immanuel’s name

God has kept His promises

What a work of grace this is

Son of Mary, chosen One

The Lamb of God has come

Hosanna, hosanna,

the Lamb of God has come.

Hosanna, hosanna,

He is the promised One.

(Repeat)
Glory be to God on high

Let peace on earth descend

God comes down before our eyes

To Bethlehem

Glory Be to God

Advent Reading - God’s Promise: The Hope of a Child

Today marks the beginning of our celebration of

advent. Advent traditions celebrate the first advent of
Jesus Christ, his birth. These same celebrations view
the Christmas story in light of God’s larger plan of
salvation, looking forward to his second advent as
King. While the virgin birth of Jesus is amazing, what
Jesus did in dying on the cross for our sins is the
most incredible part of his story. We would have little
reason to celebrate apart from the saving work of
Jesus on the cross and the anticipation of his return.

The Advent candles remind us of God’s gift of life

through Jesus Christ. The four outer candles
represent the light of God reaching the world through
the birth of his son Jesus. In the center of is a fifth,
larger, candle that represents the Savior, marking his
place at the center of God’s plan.
This week we light the first advent candle. This candle
signifies hope, the hope that is Christ our Savior.
Isaiah, over 600 years prior to Christ’s birth,
proclaimed God’s message of hope for His people.
Isaiah 9:6-7

For to us a child is born,

    to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

    and his name shall be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and of peace

    there will be no end,

on the throne of David and over his kingdom,

    to establish it and to uphold it

with justice and with righteousness

    from this time forth and forevermore.

The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

(ESV)
Isaiah never saw the fulfillment of his words. Now we
get to look back and read God’s fantastic promise
with the full knowledge of the story of Christmas. With
the coming of Christ and the revelation of the gospel,
the mystery of the child hidden from Isaiah has been
opened up for all to see.
Make straight in the desert

a way for the King.

The music is calling;

awake now and sing.

Lift high your hosannas;

away doubt and fear.

The morning is coming,

the Promise is near.

Sing a joyful alleluia.

Sing a joyful alleluia.

Sing a joyful alleluia,

the Promise is near.

The voices of prophets

have called us to pray.

O our darkness is over,

hope is restored.

Preparing our hearts for

the glorious day.

O prepare ye the way of the Lord.

The time is upon us,

redemption is nigh.

The heavens will sing

and the earth will reply.

Sing a joyful alleluia.

Sing a joyful alleluia.

Sing a joyful alleluia,

the Promise is near.

God will send a King to restore you.

He will reign forever and ever.

God will send a Lamb to redeem you.

Come and sing unto the Lord,

now, with great expectation.

And with great celebration,

rejoice with a great alleluia. Alleluia!

Now let every nation

lift jubilant praise.

Throw open your hearts

for the coming of grace.

With great jubilation

lift voices above.

A new song is coming,

the music of love.

Sing a joyful alleluia.

Sing a joyful alleluia.

Sing a joyful alleluia,

the Promise is near.

Sing a joyful alleluia.

Sing a joyful alleluia.

Sing a joyful alleluia,

the Promise is near.

Let all of creation

rejoice now and sing!

Let all of creation

rejoice and sing!

Come and stand amazed, you people,

See how God is reconciled!

See his plans of love accomplished,

See his gift, this newborn child.

See the Mighty, weak and tender,

See the Word who now is mute.

See the Sovereign without splendor,

See the Fullness destitute

See how humankind received him;

See him wrapped in swaddling bands,

Who as Lord of all creation

Rules the wind by his commands.

See him lying in a manger

Without sign of reasoning;

Word of God to flesh surrendered,

He is wisdom's crown, our King.

O Lord Jesus, God incarnate,

Who assumed this humble form,

Counsel me and let my wishes

To your perfect will conform.

Light of life, dispel my darkness,

Let your frailty strengthen me;

Let your meekness give me boldness,

Let your burden set me free;

O Emmanuel, my savior

Let your death be life for me.

Come Thou long expected Jesus,

Born to set Thy people free;

From our fears and sins release us;

Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel’s Strength and Consolation,

Hope of all the earth Thou art;

Dear Desire of every nation,

Joy of every longing heart.

Joy to those who long to see Thee

Dayspring from on high appear;

Come thou promised Rod of Jesse

of Thy birth we long to hear.

O’er the hills the angels singing

news, glad tidings of a birth;

Go to Him your praises ringing

Christ the Lord has come to earth.

Come to earth to taste our sadness

He whose glories knew no end;

By His life He brings us gladness

Our Redeemer, Shepherd, Friend.

Leaving riches without number

born within a cattle stall;

This the everlasting wonder,

Christ was born the Lord of all.

Born Thy people to deliver

born a child and yet a King;

Born to reign in us forever

Now Thy gracious Kingdom bring.

By Thine own eternal Spirit

Rule in all our hearts alone;

By Thine all sufficient merit

Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
