Consideration of Learners:
How have you responded to your diverse learners? Consider UDL (Multiple means of Engagement, Representation,

in response to needs or interests of students.

I have responded to my diverse learners. We will start with watching a video of a book being read. Then we will talk
about the book and different things that happened in the book. The book talks a bit about family life in the past and we
will make a T-chart of the differences. We will also talk about the order of events in the book.

CONDUCT MANAGEMENT: (Behavioral expectations, strategies to encourage self- regulation, etc.)

Identify at least 2 ways you will gain whole group attention: clapping, counting, “knock knock”

CONTENT MANAGEMENT: watching something on the screen

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: will be sitting in front of the screen and then in circle

DOMAIN 3: INSTRUCTION
CONTENT MANAGEMENT: YOUR INSTRUCTION
Motivation/Opening/Intro: ( 7 minutes)
- Ask students to go and sit in front of the screen
- Say that I will show you a video of a woman reading a book
- We are going to talk about this book afterwards and think about how the person in the books life is different
from our own lives
- watch the video of When I was young in the mountains
- pause the video and ask the students what they think the jonny house is
- after the video pull up a picture of okra and explain that this is the vegetable that the family was eating
- this vegetable is very good for you apparently
Development: (20 minutes)
- start singing “criss cross..”
- we made family trees a little while ago
- do you think that some of your grandparents could have had a life like what was talked about in the book?
- Why or why not
- Life wasn’t always like how it is right now
- Remember when we talked a bit about letters and phones
- Your grandparents could have had lives very similar to this
- Lets make a T-chart
- I am going to put the past on one side and the present on the other
- Can any of you think about things that happened in the book that are things that you don’t do today?
- List what the students say maybe 6 things or so
- Now lets think about life right now in the present
- What is something that we do that the family in the past didn’t do?
- List what students say and again maybe 6 or so items
- Now close your eyes
- Think about the life in the book
- If you think that you would like to live a life like the person in the book raise your hand
- Open your eyes
- So and so, why do you want to life in the past?
- Student answers
- So and so, why do you want to life in the present?
- Student answers
- Family is still very important in both the past and the present right!

Closure: (3 minutes)
- There is one last idea that I want to leave you with
- Something that the book talked about was the schoolhouse also being the church
- This is something that we are going to talk a bit more about tomorrow
- I have another book planned for you!
- I do have some extra homework for you
