ICT UNIT II: PHOTOSHOP

REVIEWER
LESSON 1: BASICS OF IMAGE EDITING

Image Editing – the process of altering images

Traditional Analog Image Editing- known as photo- retouching, using tools such
as an airbrush to modify photographs w/ any traditional art medium

Graphic Software Program- can be broadly, grouped into vector, graphics editor,
raster graphics editos, and 3D modelers, are the primary tools with which a user
manipulate, enhance, transform images.

**

Vertor- can be change

Raster- just a picture. Can’t be edit/ change

Photoshop Document (.psd).A.pst- a file format which photoshop saves

document by fault

Layers- single transparent sheets which hold particular piecer of an image

Selections- regions in image that will be affected by the various tools

Image size- resolution should not be confused w/image size, which is also
expressed in pixels

Colormode- types of colors you will be using in your image CMYK & RGB are the
most important of these modes to be familiar with

Images- versatile, come in variety of formates and deliver context, in formation

and emotion that alone, struggle to convey

Newspapers- used dramatic images to tell their stories. Image if the hook that
draws the reader’s eye to read the words.
- break up text, brightens the page and sets the mood for the article. Website use
photos in the same way, to catch the readers before they navigate away from a
page, to draw them on to the reading content

Begginer’s need to learn:

1. Cropping
2. Resizing & Compression
3. Correcting
4. Sharpening/ Softening

Cropping- make a huge different to it’s impace. When you cut out distracting
background, the subject of your photo stands out better.

Rule of thirds- divides the image into thirds, horizontally and vertically and then
aligns the subject w/ one of the intersecting lines

Resizing & Compression- resizing & compression to the optinum size for the use
you intend it for

Size= actually height and width that your image will be displayed as

Resolution= no.of dots per inch (dpi) that appear your images in final form

Correcting- generalized corrections

- this might be because the light that was not consitent w/ the white balance
setting on the camera

Sharpening or Softening- last of the global connections that are often applied to
digital images

-digital sensors

Raster Image- stored in computer in the form of a grid of picture elements, or

pixels. These pixels contain the images color and brightness information
Vector graphics software, are used to create and modify vector images, which
are stored as descriptions of lines, and text instead of pixels

-it is easier to rasterize a vector image, than to vectorize a raster image

Automatic Image Enhancement- correct color hue and brightness imbalances as

well as other image editing feature, such as red eye removal

Digital Date Compression- used to reduce file size and save storage space

-may take place in the camrea, or can be done in computer w/ the image editor

Screen Resolution- close to 72 pixels per inch

-preffered resolution:

Images= 300

Printing= 150

-the typical monitor is set to display somewhere around 800x600 pixels. Means
that 1” by 1” 600 dpi image would fill up most of the screen

Layering- whenever you add text to an image in photoshop, the text appears on a
new layer

-often times, when you find yourself frostrated w/ photoshop, it is because you
are trying to perform operations on a layer that is not currently selecter

- you can “merge down” layers to consolidate them, and “flatten image” to force
the entire contents of the image onto ONE LAYER

~Software provides many image editing features for raster (pixel- based) images
as well as vector graphics

~Uses a layer- based editing system that enables images creation and altering
with multiple overlays that support transparency
~Can act as masks or filters, altering underlying colors

~Actions include automatian features to reduce the need for repetitive tasks

~An option known as Photoshop CC( Creating cloud) allows users to work an
content from any computer

~Been the industry standard image manipulation program for so long that is name
has become a verb. It is common parlence to say that an image has been
“photoshopped” or even just “shopped”. Shopped in this context, is synonymous
with edited, manipulated, or faked.

~Used by photographers, graphic designers, video game artists, advertising, and

meme designers

~An image editing tool is NOT a designed tool

~Typical task include treating and manipulation, compositing, converting to

different formates, printings, etc.

Photoshop Compatibility- photoshop tends to work well w/ other applications.

Photoshop formats into programs such as Macromedia Fireworks, Coral Draw,
etc.
