Mentor Interview Highlights
Question: Why do you think
Radiology is important in todays
world ?
• Radiology is alternative in some
major surgeries
• Helps early diagnose
• Makes exams quicker and more
efficient.
• Helps get a better view of the
body.
Why did I chose my mentorship site/ mentor?
• My mentor has worked with
Interventional Radiology for a while
• My mentor has various experience in the
ER along with experience with patient
connections.
• First clinic in league city to offer inpatient
and outpatient care.
• Its very convenient (close to home)
• From the times I’ve been, the staff has
always treated their patients with care.
• UTMB has a very good advanced imaging
department
All about ISM

for juniors and seniors that allows them to shadow a
professional in the profession they wish to study.

Project Topic

The Project topic I will be study this

semester is Radiology Diagnostics.
Which is a combined radiology
method used to seek injury or
complications of any kind. I chose this
topic because when I go to my
mentorship I’m always observing the
types of machines and analyzing how
they work.
• Why do we use Radiology Diagnostics

• What Can Radiology do to your body

• Explain how to use the different types of

Radiology
Key Points
• Future Radiology use

• The history of Radiology Diagnostics

Why do we use
radiology?
• Can help guide Radiologist through
procedures easily
• Can provide a diagnosis
• Used to treat areas of the body
• Could eliminate the need for surgery
• Prevent diseases before they actually
occur
• Monitor body’s response to
treatment
How does Radiology affect your
body?
• Radiology could cause a risk for cancer
• Hair loss
• Could kill nerve and small blood vessels which could
cause seizures
• Excessive exposure from radiation could affect the
thyroid
• Reduces the cell lymphocyte count which leaves the
body more susceptible for infection
• Could cause heart failure by damaging small blood
vessels
• Immediate damage to the gastrointestinal system by
causing nasea,vomiting, and diarrhea

blood flow.
What does the future
hold for Radiology?
• Using Artificial Intelligence could
improve mammogram accuracy with
false positives and negatives.
• Artificial Intelligence could improve
medical decision making when it comes
to medical imaging.
• A dozen radiologist increased there use
of diagnosing skeletal abnormalities by
using Artificial intelligence
History of Radiology
• X-rays were discovered in 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad
Roentgen
• Roentgen discovered X-rays could pass through
human tissues by experimenting on his wife Mary
Roentgen.
• 6 months after Roentgen the x-ray physicians began
to use them to help wounded soldiers in the war.
• After the X-ray was invented it became very popular
outside of medicine such as dentistry.
• Roentgen discovery lead to many advances in
radiology such as the cathode.
Current Event
• Article Citations: AI, Radiology and the Future of Work.” The Economist, The Economist
Newspaper, 7 June 2018, www.economist.com/leaders/2018/06/07/ai-radiology-and-the-
future-of-work.

Key points from article:

• Artificial intelligence can be used to help us find solutions quicker
• Radiologist that use AI, are more intelligent than Doctors
• Lower the cost of imaging
How it relates to my project:
• Talks about future radiology use
• Goes over how Radiology helps diagnose
• Talks about how technology can also benefit us
Product
The product I will be
creating this semester is a
poster board explaining
How Radiation affects our
body and the changes that
occurs through the body
systems.
Artifacts
Medical History: in clinical medicine
this is used to find the patients past and
present based on health, this is an
important tool in the medical field.
Artifacts
Final Report: A written document
explaining what the patient got
examined or any procedures they
experienced.
Artifacts

Photos of Process: this is used to guide

the staff on how to keep themselves
free from an infection and any bacteria.
Artifacts

Progress Notes: this is used to keep

track of the patients performance
during procedures it provides how
their body’s react to the treatment.
Conclusion
From my mentorship experience this year I
have learned so many valuable skills such as
communication skills and how to make
connections with people. From my ISM course
I’ve learned the value of time management
and how important it is to listen the others.
I wanted to give a big thank you to my
mentor Mrs. Emily Brown for allowing
me to shadow her and sharing her
THANK YOU! thoughts. Also thank you to everyone
who listened to this Presentation. And a
big thank you my teacher Mrs. Click.
