NARRATIVE REPORT IN DEMONSTRATION TEACHING IN MATHEMATICS

SEPTEMBER 25, 2018

Education plays a big role in the society, it makes the new generation equipped to face the battle
of life that makes them happy, prosperous and satisfied in living. Teachers, as one of the stake
holders in education, transfer the knowledge to the students that bare fruits like wisdom, skills
and values.
Even our times is hard to deal with, there still an effective way to teach the new generation that
brings them to success. Master teachers are not always old in their fields, but serves as a helper
primarily for the students’ welfare. Yes, they humbly accept the challenge of being a helper, for
the sake of other teachers also.
The grand master in mathematics, the Head Teacher of its department Ma’am Rowena C. Armado
encourage all mathematics teachers to support and observe the demonstration teaching of
Ma’am Erly I. Dela Peña, also a master teacher. Most of the teachers particularly in Grade 8
response positively on this program.
Mrs. Erly I. Dela Peña, and other master teachers are concern for the education of the students,
thus they show an example for the teachers to imitate or improve. She is very supportive in the
department head in checking the content of the lesson plan of every math teachers.
We approach the time that the demo teaching begins. The head teacher distribute the copy of
the lesson plan prepared by demo teacher together a one page evaluation to give rate for the
latter. Ma’am Erly (to make it sound approachable) starts the class by asking a student to lead
the prayer. After that, they proceed to the routinely activities such as greetings, cleaning and
review. For the motivation, she introduce a short story of Rene Descartes, which leads to the
discussion of Rectangular Coordinate System. She emphasize the problem situation that engage
the students to interact. As the flow of discussion, there are a lot of activities that has been
injected, but she manage it on time. The demo teacher shows an excellent example to encourage
the students who failed to answer to try again to come up with correct answer. Moreover, she
don’t let her guard down in determining the needs of the students, indeed she integrate the
subject of Social Studies and English to boost the learning. One of the word that needs to fonder
is abscissa that makes all students to close their eyes and inculcate the spelling in their mine. The
students learn effectively while playing as a group to identify the coordinates of specific countries
in a world map. After those activities, a quiz that are attainable has been executed. The board
are full of colorful visual materials and the power of ICT makes the learning easy to transfer.
In the end, the program will give benefits not just for teachers but more importantly for our next
generation.
