Awesome Teaching Moment!!

One of the requirements for 1st grade is to write all numbers legibly from
1-120. To encourage this my cooperating teacher and I give student number charts to fill out as extra
work during Mathematics. If the students completed the number chart their work is posted on the
bulletin board called “The Wow Wall”. One of my students had been working very hard to make it on to
“The Wow Wall” with no success. But this time, all of the numbers were written correctly! When I
announced his name and stapled his paper to the board, his face lit up with pride. He smiled and said,
“Yes!” Moments like these are the reason I became a teacher. Watching students work hard and achieve
their goals is amazing! Especially when you show them that you believe in them and their abilities.
Eventually, they will begin to believe in themselves.
