What makes an “Ideal Leader?” Which traits define an “Ideal Leader?” The role of teacher
leaders and leadership qualities have evolved with social change and development in today’s
educational world. By reflecting on these matters, one can define the type of leader they’d like to
become, and strive to develop their own capacities in management areas.

An “Ideal Leader” is an individual, who is a motivator, tenacious, and is blue collar worker.

The style of leadership has evolved with social change and development. For example, an
orchestra has many people and instruments. Great leaders and leadership looks like that of the
orchestra conductor. A conductor analyzes the characteristics of each member to be integrated
harmoniously into a team. Thus, the conductor identifies and embolden the potential of each
member for identified harmony.

People in positions of leadership must possess many traits for many situations. The secret of
leadership is to have excellent insight into human potentiality. Therefore, the methodology is not
only the main key of great leadership, but also to have the ability to apply the style of leadership
for various situations. Leaders should embody various characteristics; such as being:

Effective managers are active mentors who provide feedback from observations and student
work to improve teaching practices which facilitate student centered learning environments. The
role as a supervisor is to foster an engaging learning environment that will facilitate mastery of
various technical skills needed to apply to their respected setting. Team leaders and coaches must
be very careful not to offend, push too hard or force teachers to do things they are not
comfortable with. Therefore, open conversations regarding instructional practices is vital to
examine what is working, what is not working, what was effective, and analyze the delivery of
lessons in each classroom.

Teacher leadership is the process by which teachers, individually or collectively, influence their
colleagues, principals, and other members of the school community to improve teaching and
learning practices with the aim of increased student learning and achievement. Leaders need to
be continuous learners to model new trends and instructional techniques to align with state
standards and curriculum. In addition, effective directors are active mentors who provide
feedback from observations and student work to improve teaching practices which facilitate
student centered learning environments.
