Simplified functional description

DRY operation
• In a cross-counter flow arrangement the inlet air is forced through the heat
exchanger coil. The air is gaining temperature and is cooling down the
cooling medium.

SPRAY operation
• The flow of ambient air is humidified (close to saturation) through the fine
water spray and the evaporative effect. The chilled humid air passes the
heat exchanger coil in a cross-counter flow. The air temperature rises, the
medium temperature is reduced. Fine water droplets on the fin surface
inside the coil evaporate and produce additional evaporative cooling effect
(Partly hybrid operation)

Water treatment

• Requirements:
Softened water
make-up water
pH value 7,0 - 8,0
total hardness < 4°dH (<7,2°fH)
Chlorid < 50 g/m³
Electrical conductivity (T=25°C) < 1000 μS/cm
Sulphate < 90 g/m³

Water treatment is much easier and cheaper


to realize than with recirculation systems like
cooling towers!

Adiabatic spray systems enable lower condensing and subcooling


temperatures.

 Lower condensing and subcooling temperatures enable higher


cooling capacities of chiller systems.

 Smaller chiller systems can be used.

 Remarkable savings in energy consumption can be achieved


(in the given case: 45% saving of nominal consumption!)

• The additional investment for the adiabatic cooler pays of very quickly
thanks to lower investment cost for a smaller chiller and lower operating
cost
