Round 21 - Dc into 2nd and 3rd tr. Ch 20, * miss a tr, dc into next 13 tr, ch 20.
Repeat from * ending with 3dc and 1dc into top of 3chs.

Now you will crochet around the ch loops and turn back each one to join to the
previous one with a htr………..like this……….
Round 22 – 35tr around 1st ch loop, * miss 2dc, dc into next dc, then dc over the 7dc
over shell, then 10tr into chain loop, turn work, count 10 tr up the side of first loop,
insert hook into 10th tr and join with 1htr, [thus linking the first and second loop], turn
work back and continue round 2nd ch loop with 25 more tr, * repeat from * along row
to end sl st into first st. Fasten off.

1st Shoulder Row 1 – Turn work and start from other end where the first of the 9
shells are – join yarn to top of 3 chs, 1 V stitch between 3rd and 4th tr, 4ch ] repeat
until 4 V stitches have been worked, then 1tr into 6th tr of shell.

Now you will crochet around the 3 x ch loops and turn back each loop to join
to the previous one with a htr as done earlier in the work………

2nd Shoulder Row 2 - turn work, 10trs into ch loop, turn work and join with a htr to
5th tr in next loop, turn work back, make 20 more tr into ch loop, sl st into tr between
ch loops. * 10tr into next loop, turn work and insert hook into 10th tr of next loop, 1
htr, turn work back and complete loop with 20trs. Repeat in this way on each ch
loop, to end of the 3 ch loops. Miss 2tr, sl st into next tr and fasten off.

Alternative 2nd Shoulder –

1st Row - with 5 neck shells to left, miss 1tr after the htr join of last two tr loops, and rejoin

Second half of tunic [mirror image of first half]

Work as first half up to and including Row 15 = [Row of shells].

Continuing with 1st Shoulder -

1st Shoulder Row 1 – 3chs, turn work, * 1 V stitch between 3rd and 4th tr, 4ch
repeat until 4 V stitches have been worked, then 1tr into 6th tr of same shell.

1st Shoulder Row 2 – 3chs, turn work, *1 V stitch into 2ch sp, 4ch repeat from *
ending with a V stitch and 1tr in top of 3chs at end.

Repeat last row 5 more times. Fasten off.

Continuing on body – with wrong side facing, leave 5 groups of shells un-worked
[to be neckline] and join yarn between 5th and 6th shell

Round 16 – 3ch, * miss 3tr, 1 V stitch into ch sp, miss 3tr, 4ch*. Repeat to end and
finish with 1tr into top of 3chs at end.

Rounds 17 – 22 as above

2nd Shoulder Row 1 - 1ch, sl st into the 6th tr, * make 20 chs, miss 2 trs, sl st into
next 3 tr, * repeat 3 times – you should have 3 ch loops

Now you will crochet around the 3 x ch loops as before, turning back each
loop to join to the previous one with a htr --- but this time you will also join the
3 loops to the corresponding loops on the other half of the work…….in this
way……..

2nd Shoulder Row 2 - turn work, 10trs into ch loop, turn work and join with a htr to
5th tr in next loop, turn work back, make 5tr into ch loop, then join with a htr to
same place on other half, then 15 more trs into loop [30 trs in loop altogether] , sl
st into tr between ch loops. * 10tr into next loop, turn work and work 1htr into 10th tr
of next loop, turn work back and 5tr into loop, then join with 1htr to
corresponding loop on the other half, complete loop with 15trs. Repeat from * in
this way on each ch loop, to the end of the 3 ch loops. Miss 2tr, sl st into next tr and
fasten off.

Join first shoulder - turn to wrong side and place shoulder edges together. Take
a length of yarn in a wool needle and sew edges together by inserting needle front to
back, in through the front thread of the first st on nearest half, and then through the
back thread of first st on back piece. Then return the needle from back to front,
through the back thread of second st on back half and then through front thread of
second st on front half.. Do not pull too tightly. Do this all along the two shoulder
edges then turn over. Insert needle in the same way for the shoulder edge sts on
this side, but when pulling the yarn through sts leave a loop, and put needle through
loop and pull to make a knot. Repeat this a couple of times to secure work. Cut
thread.

Neckline – start with right side facing, at right end of 6 tr shells and attach yarn by
tying a knot through the first tr of shell, and using hook, pull a loop through.
1st Row - Make 5chs, * 1tr into 4th tr of shell, 2chs, 1tr into first tr of next shell, repeat
from * to end of shells, then *miss 2sts, 2chs, 1tr* repeat into ends of each row
along shoulders, and then over shells as before. Continue over second shoulder -
*miss 2tr, 1tr into next st, 2chs * Repeat to end and join with a sl st to 3rd of 5chs.

2nd Row - sl st into ch sp, 3chs, 1tr into same ch sp. * into next ch sp work 1dc,
3chs, 1tr * repeat around neck to end and sl st to 2ch. Fasten off.

Joining side seams - turn to wrong side - Lay work down with 2nd shoulder
[loopy shoulder] to the right and count 7 treble loops [not the 3 on the shoulder] from
the neckline down the right side of garment. Join yarn in to the treble which is to the
left of htr join. The next two rows are to be worked up the side and all around
armhole, then down other side.

1st Row – 5chs, miss 2 tr, * 1tr into next st, 3chs * repeat 4 times, then miss htr and
make 1tr into next tr. Repeat in this way spacing out the trebles with 2chs and
missing 2tr or equivalent distance. Go all around the armhole to the last tr of 7th
treble loop on other half.

2nd Row – 5chs, miss 2ch, * 1tr into tr, miss 2ch * round to end making last tr into 3rd
of 5 chs. Leaving at least 1 m of yarn, cut yarn and pull through last st to tighten.

Lay the garment flat with wrong sides facing and measure down 20cms from
shoulders on the side just worked, and mark place by tying a piece of thread through
both layers or use a stitch marker. Thread a needle on to the left over yarn and join
seam in the same way as the 1st shoulder seam.

Go to other side seam, and measure down 20cms from shoulder – across the side of
the V stitch section and down over one large treble loop. Place marker through both
layers in next tr loop where the single treble is worked. Take a length of yarn and
sew as before from the bottom edge up side seam, ignoring the big tr loop at the
bottom and starting at the shell row, matching st for st on both halves.

Turn work to right side

Sleeve – re-join yarn by tying a knot in the side seam where you just finished and
pull through a yarn loop.

1st row - make 5chs, then in the V stitch to left, make *2tr, 2ch, 2tr*, [DV st = a
double V stitch ] 2chs, then miss next ch sp, and 1tr into next ch sp, 2chs, miss
next ch sp and work * to * into next sp [should be into second row of V stitch on
shoulder section] 2ch, miss 3ch sp and work 1tr into next ch sp. 2ch, miss next ch
sp and work * to * into next ch sp. Work all around armhole in this way working into
alternate ch spaces finishing with * to * and 2ch sp. Join to beginning with a sl st
into 3rd ch. You should have 8 groups of * 2tr , 2chs, 2tr * i.e. 8 Double V stitch
groups.

2nd row - make 5chs, * DV st into 2ch between DV st trebles, 2chs, 1tr into next tr,
2ch * repeat to end finishing with DV st and 2chs, then sl st into 3rd ch to join.

Work as the last row to required length – I did 32 rows - allowing for 4 more
rows to be added ………..

Next 2 rows – work as above except make DV tr with 3tr, 2chs, 3tr

Next row - work as above except make DV tr with 4tr, 2chs, 4tr

Last row - work as above except make DV tr with 5tr, 2chs, 5tr. Fasten off.

Sleeve – re-join yarn by tying a knot in the side seam and pull through a yarn loop.

1st row – make 5chs, miss 1tr, *1 DV st into next tr, miss 1tr, 1tr into next tr, miss 1tr*
work around armhole to beginning and join to 3rd ch . You should have 8 x DV
groups as first sleeve.

Continue as first sleeve from 2nd row onwards.

Finish off by sewing in all ends.

NB larger sizes may be made by adding to the number of V stitch rows in the
initial circle. One row will add about 2cm in diameter. Or simply add more
rows in the side seams. The pattern may also be made without sleeves or
shorter sleeves.
