Proposal

Title of production: The Note

Concept
The concept of my short film is the passage and trading of a five-pound note
from person to person in the time frame of a week. The note itself isn’t the
important aspect of the film, it’s a McGuffin in showing different people’s lives
and the experience they endure whilst having a hold of the five pounds. As
an audience we will see the importance of money in some peoples lives and
how a little can go a long way. The genre for this production will be a
psychological drama/thriller just due to the audience getting an insight into
different people lives.

Why are you producing this production?


I am producing this production to show to my target audience even though
we may have different belief, values or family backgrounds we are all human
and we all have different struggles or goals in life. I want to spread a positive
message out in the world to stop the ignorance we see day in and day out.
Reviving those lessons, we heard as a child, ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’.
Also, I really wanted to make a production where there isn’t just one obvious
main character, this style of storytelling I haven’t seen very much, and I think
its unique and different way of getting a story across.

Target audience is
My target audience from this unit is 25-40-year olds.
Proposal

What they want to see


From doing all my research on my target audience I have discovered that
this demographic wants to see relatable characters within my production.
This means in terms of people they could personally align with, due to belief
or work life etc. To do this I need to have very developed characters within
my narrative which show emotion and depth to them, this way our audience
can fully understand who they are as a person. They also want to see
interesting narrative structure or different forms of storytelling, I could tell my
production in a non-linear way or involve flashbacks for it to be more
interesting to watch.

What you are creating based from that research


I am creating a narrative led short film about people lives. These lives will
have themes of money/bills and the struggles of having children etc. As these
are the issues surrounding 25-40 years old, I want them to feel represented
and acknowledge the every day issues within their own lives. I have
investigated stereotypical traits of this age range and characteristics for
example they are said to be tech savvy. I will incorporate the language they
use and highlight their interests within the production to ensure they engage
with my production. As well as this, I have investigated this age ranges
spending habits and what they typically spend their extra money on. Due to
the production involving money its good to understand how the characters
spend, as I want it to be realistic and truthful.

Where the production will be aired (why – based on target audience)


I have chosen to air my production both on YouTube and Facebook. This is
because my research has shown me that the majority of my demographic
are frequent users on these sites and they use sites more often than other
social media platforms for example Instagram.
