-we came across this particular RRL which stated there is a range of soil particle distribution
suitable for building earth blocks. If the soil doesn’t meet the requirements, there is need for a
stabilizer such as cement or line to utilize the soil for earth block production.
-therefore, we realized that the soil type or classification does not matter since all types can be
used.
-there is already an existing research on the utilization of RHA as 100% replacement of soil.
-RHA as partial replacement of sand in bricks but its impractical

We will stick with RHA as our waste material, since there is an abundance of this anywhere in
our country. We decided that we will be replacing sand instead of cement due to the number of
existing studies on cement replacement by waste materials. However, we then decided to focus
on mortar, which is more practical for sand replacement than our previous proposal which is on
soil bricks. Our choice of replacing sand instead of cement was influenced by Dr. Aziz who
wrote that:

 Generally, sand is not used in mortar to increase its strength. Rather it is mainly
used as an inert material to increase the volume of mortar for the economy.

Why replace sand?

Sand is a prime material used for preparation of mortar and concrete and
which plays a major role in mix design. Now a day’s erosion of rivers and
considering environmental issues, there is a scarcity of river sand.

Also to address again other questions posed last time,

Number 1, the rice husk is already burnt, since rice milling industries use this for fuel for the
boilers in the production of rice.
