For curly hair peeps, if you don't already, go check out /r/curlyhair. There's a lot of
variety in hair types and what works for me (I've got 3a/3b hair) might not work for
you.
Personally I use miss jessie's coily custard plus a bit of gel right after a shower.

I LOVE the scent of Biolage but I can’t justify the cost. I’m buying cheap crap since I
never style my hair anyway, so clean is good enough. (It’s not, but that’s me)

Mine's very healthy, but also very fine, very straight, lacking texture, and gets staticky in
the winter. I almost never use heat on my hair, but it's also coloured (I'm naturally blonde,
but I also have lighter blonde highlights.. colour protection isn't my top priority in a
shampoo though), Every time I need to buy a new shampoo, I try to google search for the
best cheap shampoos for my hair. The last one I used was a L'Oreal one that was thickening
and had rosemary in it. It wasn't bad, but I'm always open to change.

I find that spending the money on conditioner and styling and care products is where I
really get my money's worth.
Shampoo is shampoo, barring some exceptions. It's meant to strip all the grease and
products out. I mean, don't buy cheap floor degreaser type shampoo. But don't go all out.
Pay some attention, but midgrade is fine.
Spend money on the conditioner that follows the shampoo.
And the leave in conditioner, gel, heat treatment, and other care products used to style and
care for the health of your hair. Those are where you really get your money's worth, and
where inferior products deliver inferior results.
Not a hairdresser, but what I've noticed after years of personal hair care.

What's wrong with taking warm/hot water and using *no* shampoo/conditioner, scrubbing
your scalp well, but just not using any sort of soap - so you don't need the conditioner to
replace the oils, since you only got rid of excess oil, not all of it?
The cheapo place I get my hair cut doesn't like it to be clean because "clean" means clean
and oil-free. They want some oil in there so I'm in the habit of doing this hot water thing
before going and frankly, it seems to work well. Clean feeling fresh hair/scalp without being
dried out.

Not a hairdresser but I like Head and Shoulders 2 in 1. It cleans my hair and it saves me a
ton of time!
Edit: Also, if you can get something that's also a body wash and a moisturizer that's even
better and you save a lot of money #4in1 for the win
