To: Marshall, Akia Amari <aam5926@psu.edu>;

Hello Dr. Akande,

How are you is your work going? I can only imagine how busy you are! My name is Akia Marshall; I am a freshman
at Penn State Abington and I am reaching out to you as a poten al partner for my Acura Project.

I have looked over several of your publica ons including “Managing risk in professional prac ce: A primer for
rehabilita on counselors” and “Factors affec ng voca onal goal acquisi on of female immigrant clients:
Rehabilita on counselor perspec ves. The Journal of Rehabilita on” talking about how female immigrants
treatment and their stories got me hooked! I feel like you have background knowledge that could be very
beneficial to my ACURA Project!
A er this I did some of my own research on several different countries and child disabili es cases. Here’s a link to
my annotated bibliography, if you want to check it out! So because of your interest in community-based
rehabilita on and immigrant women with disabili es, I thought maybe you would also be interested in taking on
this ACURA Project with me! I know you are a very busy woman, and if you can not find the me to do this I
understand
A er doing my research about you, I felt like you could help me out with my research ques on - Do adolescents
with a disability that is visible get different/be er treatment from their community when it comes to social
sympathy and rehabilita on, in developing 3rd world countries?

The way I came up with this is a er a trip to Angola, Africa I met a child with both a mental and physical disability
at an orphanage and when I had go en there, no one was watching him. They had le him alone for over an hour
on a playground and it opened my eyes to the lack of care in developing countries.

So because of your interest in community-based rehabilita on and immigrant women with disabili es, I thought
maybe you would also be interested in taking on this ACURA Project with me! I know you are a very busy woman,
and if you can not find the me to do this I understand.

If you happen to find the me, I was thinking of star ng the spring semester of 2019. Therefore, I was also hoping
to receive an answer from you by December 1st!

Thank you so much for your me.

Sincerely,

Akia Marshall.
