THBT SAME SEX MARRIAGE SHOULD BE LEGALIZED

Good morning ladies and gentleman. We are from affirmative team. My name is
………………… and we have a good motion today, that is “This House Believe That
Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legalized”.
We the affirmative team believe that this statement is TRUE.

For the first at all, I will give you what is the definition of Same Sex Marriage.
Before that, we just talk in our contry first, Indonesian. Same-sex marriage (also
known as gay marriage) is the marriage of a same-sex couple, entered into in a civil or
religious ceremony. The term marriage equality refers to a political status in which the
marriages of same-sex couples and the marriages of opposite-sex couples are recognized
as equal by the law.
Background:
In our country, Proponents of legal gay marriage contend that gay marriage bans
are discriminatory and unconstitutional, and that same-sex couples should have access to
all the benefits enjoyed by different-sex couples. Opponents contend that marriage has
traditionally been defined as being between one man and one woman, and that marriage
is primarily for procreation. The gay rights movement in this country can be traced back
to the Stonewall Riots that occurred following a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in
bandung city at 3 a.m. on June 28, 1969. Police raids on gay bars were commonplace, but
on this occasion the gay and lesbian patrons fought back and sparked days of protests.
The Stonewall Riots marked the beginning of a political movement for gay rights during
a time when it was illegal to have homosexual sex in all states except for Illinois.
Between 1969 and 1974, the number of gay organizations in the country swelled from
fewer than 50 to nearly a thousand.

On this motion today, we have 2 largerst point to support this motion:

1. Human right, gay marriage is a freedom of choice
2. Equality, denying the discrimination

Now, me as the first speaker will give you my argument about the human right, gay
marriage is a freedom of choice. The state should have no say on how consenting adults
conduct their lives. If two people love each other and want to get married they should be
allowed to do so regardless of the colour, religion, nationality or sex of their partner.
Love and marriage should be a purely personal choice. When governments interfere in
the private lives of people, dictating who can marry who, individual freedoms are
compromised with potentially dangerous implications.

Point: Equality

Thank you for the time that you give to me, my name is ……………. I’m as the
second speaker of the affirmative team. Now I’ll give my argument after my rebuttal
later. Before that you said that married is not for the gay couple because they can produce
their child. But actually proponents argue that equal rights must mean equal rights. A
civilized society does not discriminate on grounds of race, religion, sex or sexuality and
denial of marriage rights is clear discrimination. Gay and heterosexual couples both
deserve the legal rights associated with marriage – on taxes, property ownership,
inheritance or adoption. No matter how you try to dress it up, denying equal rights to
gays and lesbians is homophobia.
The other side, we talk about Minority Discrimination. To not legalize same-sex
marriage is to further perpetuate the problem of minority discrimination that has stained
human history. Both of our countries share examples of governments institutionalizing
hate and discrimination by enacting laws and decrees upon its minority citizens in various
forms that aim to limit and instill inferiority in citizens of minority groups such as Jim
and Jane Crow laws and the apartheid [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Crow_laws]].
Once this feeling of inferiority enters the psychology of minorities, a lack of self worth
leads to less economic and social prosperity as well as a denial of one's own identity as
they are barraged with the message that they are lesser. The time is always now to end
this vicious pattern of discrimination against homosexuals citizens. To legalize same sex
marriage is to award the right of marriage to every citizen and having citizens be viewed
as equals in the eyes of the government. While same-sex marriage is illegal, anti-gay
legislation is easily disguised when laws only pertain to married persons, as was the case
of Mary Coughlan's amendment, [[http://www.rte.ie/news/2004/0311/gay.html]]. Once it
is made legal, government attempts to undercut the rights of same-sex couples will be
transparent, and thus more easily dealt with.
Although they cant have a child, aren’t they can adopt their children? It so many
child want to adopt and have their own family. In fact research proof based on
detiknews.com said the adoption child is more happy and more smart who adopt with the
guy couple because although the have a same one, the also have a good emotional to take
care their child. And then, gay marriage is a successful institution and it makes sense to
open it to as many people as possible. Since the beginning of history, couples have sought
to seal their love and solemnly bind themselves together through marriage. Opening that
bond to all will strengthen society. Legalization recognizes reality: there are gay people,
they love each other and they want to commit to each other through marriage in the same
way as straight couples.

Point: -

Thank you for the time that you give to me, my name is ……………….. I’m as
the third speaker of the affirmative team. Now I’ll give my rebuttal about what did you
said before and also give you more fact to make our team stay strong. In our country we
have a law fom mahkamah constitution number 292 about the legalized of gay couple to
have a married and not discriminate them. As you know, gay couple is not a simple topic,
average it also spread so far away in the other country like Indonesian. In fact in
Indonesian already have a association of gay couple who named “LAMBDA” and also
have a symbol 7 colour like a rainbow. Gay couple already much in this country so the
make a club that the can express their emotional without a fear after the law begin.
Lambda Legal, the largest legal organization in our country committed to the civil rights
of gays and lesbians, available at lambdalegal.org (accessed Sep. 12, 2012), "Regardless
of how completely their lives are intertwined or how deeply they care for each other,
individuals in same-sex relationships frequently are treated like strangers under the law
— and none are afforded full equality in this country. This unequal treatment causes
concrete and devastating harm. It most deeply affects those with children, those with
fewer financial resources, people of color, senior citizens or those with less access to
education. In addition, the government's denial of legal statuses and protections available
to different-sex couples brands lesbians and gay men as second class. Lambda Legal will
continue to seek an end to discrimination in access to civil marriage so that same-sex
couples in this country have the same choices other couples have, including whether or
not to marry."
We have many reason to legalized that same sex married based on our argument
before.
1. Denying some people the option to marry is discriminatory and creates a second
class of citizens.
2. The concept of "traditional marriage" has changed over time, and the definition of
marriage as always being between one man and one woman is historically
inaccurate.
3. Gay marriage is protected by the Indonesian constitution's commitments of
mahkamah constitutions and equality.
4. Marriage is an internationally recognized human right for all people.
5. Marriage is not only for procreation, otherwise infertile couples or couples not
wishing to have children would be prevented from marrying.

Because of that, we should support and legalized the gay married, that already law
and also the association to support this. So, I strongly believe that our team argument still
strong and can applied in this country.

REPLAY SPEECH
