B. Motivation
- Video Presentation on the typhoons that devastated the Philippines.
C. Reviewing Previous Lesson
- The teacher will ask: “What are the different typhoon categories?”
D. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson
- Every year the Philippines is hit by typhoons. No part of the country is spared. All
provinces have been visited by a typhoon at one time or another. In recent years,
the Philippines had been overwhelmed by powerful tropical cyclones.

E. Presenting Examples/Instances of the New Lesson

- According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical
Services Administration (PAGASA), about 20 tropical cyclones enter the
Philippine Area of Responsibility each year. We have to be knowledgeable
about tropical cyclones if we want to prevent the loss of more lives.
F. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills
- The Philippines is prone to typhoons because the Philippines is geographically
located along the Pacific region near the Equator which is prone to tropical
cyclones and storms. If you look at the globe or a map, you’ll see our big
neighbor which lies next to us – the biggest ocean in the world, the Pacific
Ocean.
G. Activity
Make a concept map that shows why the Philippines is prone to typhoons.
H. Generalization
- The Philippines lie in the most tropical cyclone-prone waters on Earth, and
rarely escape a year without experiencing a devastating typhoon.
- The Philippines is located in a large Pacific Ocean region where many of
the Earth’s volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur (the Ring of Fire). It’s
also in a weather pathway near the equator known as the “Typhoon Belt.”
This makes the Philippines one of the most disaster-prone countries in the
world.
I. Evaluation
Explain why the Philippines is prone to typhoons. (10pts.)

V. Assignment

Research about the safety precautions before, during, and after a typhoon.
