National Rural Support Programme (NRSP)

section 2 (36) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001)

We are here to facilitate you in your endeavors to help the Internally

Displaced Persons (IDPs)

National Rural Support Programme is country’s largest rural support programme in

terms of its outreach and activities. NRSP has a large outreach in NWFP where
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are being served by a number of governmental and
non governmental organizations. NRSP has set up relief operations in the districts
where IDPs are being looked after. We can assist and facilitate the international, national
and local organizations in their efforts to provide goods and services to the IDPs
because:

a) NRSP has significant presence in NWFP in the form of regional, district and
tehsil level offices and a network of Community Organizations (COs) and
Community Volunteers;
b) NRSP has participated in the post earthquake relief, rehabilitation and
reconstruction operation in earthquake affected areas with the support of
Pakistan Poverty alleviation Fund, UN agencies and many other national and
international organizations. NRSP received commendation/appreciation
certificates from the Government of Pakistan, Care International, Federal
Relief Commission and other agencies for its work in the earthquake affected
areas. NRSP has also provided relief to flood affected persons in NWFP,
Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan;
c) NRSP has more than 4,500 staff working at different regions with about 500
staff and a fleet of vehicles in NWFP fully prepared and trained in relief
operations to provide goods and services;
d) NRSP has set up an Institute of Rural Management that can enhance NRSP’s
own capacity and capacity of other developmental agencies/NGOs and
communities in carrying out relief operations successfully;
e) NRSP has put in place sound financial and inventory management system
that enable it to track funds and goods to the satisfaction of its own Board of
Directors, donors and other stakeholders; and
f) NRSP has a specialized Disaster Management Cell at its Head Office
equipped with technical skills and capacities to implement and monitor large
scale relief and rehabilitation operations during emergencies.

NRSP’s specialization:

a) Needs assessment on a recurrent basis

b) Setting up logistics systems (transport, warehousing/stock piling,
packing/sorting, distribution) for receiving and delivering goods
c) Preparing community for work and their participation and cash for work
d) Training staff and community in skills
g) Expertise in Disaster Risk Management and psychosocial support to
communities
e) Inventory management, financial management

 f) Setting up health and hygene camps and campaigns/mobile prosthetic
workshop, education facilities and drinking water supply systems and
sanitation systems; and
g) Coordinating with government, private agencies, service providers, donors
and other stakeholder for effective relief operations.
