Are America’s High Schools Preparing Students for College?

In, “Are America’s High Schools Preparing Students for College?” author Gray Stern

talks about how students need counseling before High School. The 26% of students who don’t

start college immediately, most of them said they were going to start college later, but they

didn’t. Many minority students are worried about taking out loans, because it set ups many

students for failure. The author says that it shouldn’t only be the top 10 percent of students who

deserve merit scholarships. 70% of students thought High school didn’t challenge them enough.

The other percent of students don’t get enough counseling, and when they enter college, they

don’t have expectations.

In my opinion, it really depends on the High school you go to. Some High schools only

care about the money. You will need counseling if you want to seriously prepare for college.

You will need high expectations, so you don’t lose focus.
