Primavera Contractor Installation Instructions

Introduction
MSDE will be installed on your machine when you install Primavera Contractor.
Primavera Contractor needs to be installed and a SQL database needs to be restored
(pcondb database). 6 files need to be copied into a directory that will be created for
the course.

Materials Needed

a. refreshcon.sql
b. refreshcon.bat
c. resynccon.sql
d. resynccon.bat

4. License File
a. pcon.ldf

Requirements:

Operating System • Windows 98 Second Edition


• Windows NT Workstation 4.0 sp6a
• Windows 2000 Professional sp3
• Windows XP Professional sp1
Memory Requirement • 256 MB free RAM
Hard Disk Space • 40 MB free space
Installation Instructions

Install Primavera Contractor


1. Insert the Primavera Contractor Installation CD into your computer (the installation
wizard will automatically start).
NOTE: Installation will take about 5-10 minutes.

2. Click Next on the Welcome screen.


3. Accept the license agreement.
4. If MSDE and MDAC are not present on the computer, you will receive the following
message: “MSDE must be installed for setup to continue. you must reboot your system
after MSDE is installed. Would you like to launch the MSDE setup now?”
5. If you receive this message, choose Yes to install MSDE (MSDE automatically installs the
required version of MDAC). The MSDE installer will launch separately. When MSDE
installation is finished, the computer will automatically reboot and relaunch the
Primavera Contractor installer.
If you do not receive the previous message, continue with the next step.

6. At the customer information screen:


a. Enter your name where it says “Customer Name”.
b. Enter your Customer Information.
c. Enter 85999999 as the serial number.
7. Choose the destination folder for the Primavera Contractor installation. By default,
Primavera Contractor installs in the Primavera folder.
The following step applies only to users who already have Microsoft SQL Server installed. If you do not have
Microsoft SQL server installed, the screen in the next step does not appear.

8. Enter the user name and password you use to log in to Microsoft SQL Server. The
default user name is SA. The default password is also SA.
9. At the Install Options screen uncheck “Include sample database” and “Claim Digger”.
10. Finish the installation process.

Restore the Database


NOTE: If you install this training database it will OVERWRITE an existing
‘pcondb’ database. BACK UP an existing ‘pcondb’ if you want to refer back
to it at a later time!

1. Create a folder right off of your C drive and call it “Backups”. The correct path will be
“C:\ backups”.

2. Copy the following files to: C:\backups folder:


a. pcondb
b. refreshcon.bat
c. refreshcon.sql
d. resynccon.bat
e. resynccon.sql
f. pcon.ldf

3. Run the two batch files: refreshcon.bat and resynccon.bat.


NOTE: This will restore the database on your computer. To verify the database was
restored successfully, look in the c:\backups folder for the 2 new files “pcondb_DAT.mdf”
and “pcondb_LOG.ldf”.

Configure the Application


1. Delete the current file PCon.ini from the C drive at
“C:\Program Files\Primavera\Primavera Contractor”
2. Paste the file provided “PCon.ini” into the C:\Program Files\Primavera\Primavera
Contractor folder.
Launch Primavera Contractor
1. Go to Start, Programs, Primavera, Primavera Contractor.

NOTE: When launching Contractor for the first time, you may get the following error message:
“Unable to connect, Would you like to configure?”. Respond “Yes”:
a. If you encounter the error message, please do not change the alias of
the database.
b. Type in pcondb as the database name.
c. MSDE/MSSQL is the driver type.
d. Server machine name = “localhost”.
e. Click “OK”.

2. When you log in for the first time, you will get a registration screen.
3. Click the license file button.
4. To locate the license file select the file “pcon.ldf”.
5. Log in with the user name timh and password timh (if necessary).
Appendix – Refreshing the Database for Multiple Uses (2 steps)

If you run through a course and need to refresh the database to the initial state, you
can run a bat file to do this.

1. Browse to the C:\backups folder.


2. Double click on the file refreshcon.bat.
