BNCHS

CHAPTER I

PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

A. Introduction

Nowadays, many people especially teens have been so in to many interest and addiction,

one of this is K-pop music. Korean pop or popularly known to be K-pop is a very well-known

pop music genre that is an important economic contribution to South Korea for it became an

international pop music phenomenon. In the recent years, k-pop become a global fad captivating

the hearts and attention of the youth regardless of the language barrier. In the Philippines,

including in our area, Bacarra, almost everyone has been influenced by K-pop especially

students.

Fans make fan arts, fan videos and fan fictions of the group they like. Students use their

free time to explore the works of other fans and make it as their inspiration. Because of its very

high impact to youth, some holds programs and events related to K-pop to encounter co-fans and

for their satisfactory and enjoyment.

K-Pop serves as an inspiration for some students. By studying hard, they can fulfill their

dreams to go to South Korea and explore what they can only see on the internet or television. But

in some cases, some students no longer care about their academic performance. They are

completely obsessed with K-Pop. As if their world only revolves in it. Due to too much

obsession to this thing, this might affect the minds of a person that might affect his/her

performance in school. Being so addicted affects the academic performances of a student in a

way that they are more focused on showing their admiration and obsession that they poorly

participate in school activities.

B. Statement of the Problem

The main objective of this study is to determine the effects of being a K-pop addict in the

academic performance grade 9 students of Bacarra National Comprehensive High School.

Specifically, it will seek to answer the following questions:

1. Are there advantages of being a K-pop addict in the performance of grade 9

students of BNCHS?

2. Are there positive and negative effects of being a K-pop addict in the academic

performance of grade 9 students of BNCHS?

C. Hypotheses

H0: There will be no advantages in being a K-pop addict in the performance of grade 9

students of BNCHS.

H1: There will be advantages in being a K-pop addict in the performance of grade 9

students of BNCHS.

H0: There will be no positive and negative effects of being a K-pop addict in the

academic performance of grade 9 students of BNCHS.

H1: There will be positive and negative effects of being a K-pop addict in the academic

performance of grade 9 students of BNCHS.

D. Significance of the Study

K-pop has been a part of fan's life wherein it acts as an inspiration, or destruction in some

situation. This research study will help determine the effects of being a K-pop addict of students

in their academic performance. It also will help understand if there is a positive or negative effect

in being a K-pop addict.

E. Scope and Limitation

This study will focus only on determining the effects of being a K-pop addict in the

academic performance of students of BNCHS and if there's positive or negative effect of being a

K-pop addict. This study will only be limited for the grade 9 students of BNCHS as clientele in

answering the questionnaires. Percentage frequency will be the statistical tool to be used in

interpreting the result. The study will be conducted at Bacarra National Comprehensive High

School.
