WHEREAS, following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Bush postponed any university
studies and enlisted in the United States Navy on his 18th birthday getting his wings at Naval Air Station
Corpus Christi on June 9, 1943, three (3) days before his 19th birthday making him one of the youngest
Navy pilots in history.
WHEREAS, George H.W. Bush has huge ties to Texas throughout his political career, including making
Texas his home; further, in honor of his memory due to his passing on November 30, 2018, the Court
desires to memorialize his name at the location of his Naval training.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COMMISSIONERS COURT hereby honors the
memory of George Herbert Walker Bush, 41ST President of the United States, for his lifetime of
accomplishments and service to the American people, and hereby supports naming Naval Air Station
Corpus Christi, the “George H.W. Bush Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.” The Court further encourages
the citizens of Nueces County to join the Court in supporting this effort.
