PART I

RITE OF LITANY OF NAMING

INTRODUCTON: The saints are not persons of the past; they continue to be alive in our time and
will continue to be alive until the end of time. Their memories, legacies, examples, inspirations,
and spirits are alive, and they can be truly alive in our lives and in our midst when we have real
relationships with them. May we be challenged by all who followed the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

( As their names are called and are told to “move here with us” they go with lighted
candles and line themselves on the stage facing the people)

Leader: In their lifetime they cultivate the spirit of peace, fidelity and respect for life, striving to
make of it a sign of world already renewed in Christ. Mindful that they are bearers of peace
which must be built up unceasingly, they should seek out ways of unity and fraternal harmony
through dialogue, trusting in the presence of the Divine seed in everyone and in the transforming
power of love and pardon. Since they are immersed in the resurrection of Christ, which gives true
meaning to Sister Death, let them serenely tend toward the ultimate encounter with the Father.

1. THE MARTYRS
All Martyrs: May we be formed according to the Gospel and may we sing praises to the Lord on
our death.

Leader: The ideals and values of the world are counter -cultural and counter witnessing. The
world teaches a different set of values, the exact opposites of the values that the Kingdom of
God upholds and expresses through the Beatitudes. The world says that to be great, one has to
be rich, powerful and famous; one has to be superior, to lord it over others, to reach the top
even at the expense of others.

2. THE VIRGINS
All Virgins: May we be formed according to the Gospel and may we sing praises to the Lord as
we consecrate ourselves in the life of purity.

Leader: The kingdom of God on the other hand says otherwise. To be great, one has to be poor,
to be humble and to reach out to others in love and service. Members of the Kingdom of God are
in the world but not of the world. They hear and follow a different voice-the voice of their
Master and the Lord Jesus Christ, the embodiment of the Beatitudes. The saints and the blessed
have lived by the ideals and values of the Gospel. They have made the Gospel a lived reality in
their respective vocations in this world. The saints serve as models for us in following Jesus. They
are men and women of the Gospel

3. THE DOCTORS OF THE CHURCH

All Doctors of the Church: May we be formed according to the Gospel and may we sing praises
to the Lord as we use our knowledge and wisdom for the glory of God.
BLESSING OF EMPOWERMENT

Leader: Let us bless ourselves as we pray.

All:
In blessing our foreheads, we claim the power of reason, to know the path that leads to
fulfillment of our hopes for a liberated humanity
In blessing our eyes, we claim the power of vision, to see clearly the forces of life and death in
our midst.
In blessing our ears, we claim the power to hear the Spirit of God speaks to us within.
In blessing our lips, we claim the power to speak the truth about our experience ; we claim
power to name ourselves and God.
In blessing our hands, we claim our powers as creators of new humanity liberated from fear,
ignorance and oppression. May our lives be blessing to each other.
