How can Dell use exploratory research to understand how household consumers buy
personal computers and related equipment?
Exploratory research is inconclusive. Some ways Dell can use exploratory research to
understand how household consumers buy personal computers and related equipment
is to assemble focus groups, and/or conduct surveys. A focus group is a sample group
of people who participate in open discussions and provide feedback on a product or
products that they bought. Dell can use focus groups to communicate with their
customers and ask them particular questions regarding the topic they are researching.
Dell can also conduct surveys. It shows that the company values customer’s opinions,
while receiving feedback on the products they purchased.

2. Describe one way in which Dell can use descriptive research

Descriptive research is classified as conclusive research design. It reports, explains,
and authenticate the data that is found. There are two types of descriptive research
designs: cross-sectional research designs and longitudinal research designs. It is used
to test specific hypotheses and characteristics of samples that are being studied.
Companies acquire important and useful information that management can use to
make decisions that will benefit the company and increase the market growth. Cross-
sectional research design is where a group is only studied at one specific point in
time. Longitudinal research design is a research study where a small group of a
population is analyzed over a certain period of time. Dell can conduct online surveys,
which is one of the most common techniques when conducting research. This is an
easy way for costumers to provide feedback.

3. Describe one way in which Dell can use causal research

Causal research is conclusive research. It is used to predict buyer behavior and use
that information to analyze the cause-and-effect relationship between two variables.
Causal research conducts research to figure out what variables are the cause
(independent) variable and which ones are the effect (dependent) variables. An
independent variable is the factor that is changed/controlled. A dependent variable is
the subject that is being tested. It is important for Dell to have a clear understanding
of their research plan so their information can be reliable. This allows companies to
come up with hypotheses for their business plan. They can conduct laboratory and
field tests. In laboratory tests, analysts have more control when dealing with
irrelevant variables but are more vulnerable to mistakes, unlike field tests. Lab tests
take more time and costs more money than field tests. Dell can use causal research to
conduct tests to find out if there is a cause-and-effect relationship between two
variables.
