Professional Development Plan

(What do YOU need to work on in order to grow professionally?)

1. Choose and describe an aspect from a teaching competency that you need to work on (Goal)
1.Classroom management. / 2. Implementing learning

2. Describe what you will do to help achieve your goal (Strategies Used)
 Make sure to give the students a lot of examples about human pollution so that they have an
idea about it
 To have hands on activities so the students can experiment what human pollution is and
how can it effect the ecosystem.

3. Describe how you can tell if you’re achieving your goal (Evidence)
 When the students can do the activities in their own.
 Students can understand the different concepts with the new vocabulary words.

Grade Level: Subject: Learning Outcome (ADEC code and words):

What causes an ecosystem to change?
Grade 4 science
 human pollution

Resources (what materials/equipment will you and Preparation (what do you need to make or check before
the students use? Be specific) class?)

 Class dojo Make sure class dojo works along with the computer.

 Computer Key vocabulary:

 Box  Pollution

 Water bottle  Surroundings

 Plastic sea animals  Litter

 Food colouring  Environment

 Plants  Effects

 Humans activities
Introduction (warmer activity + teacher introduction/demonstration of small group activities)

T: Today we will learn about ecosystem and how people effect the ecosystem. An ecosystem is an
environment where animals live, eat and live in their habitat and how they interact with one another. I will
ask the students to give me an example of an animal and how they eat and how they live. Talk about
different human activities that cause change in the ecosystem. T: There are a lot of activities that humans
do that has an effect on the ecosystem and explain what they are and what they mean. Examples of human
activities: Deforestation, Pollution and Overfishing. Show pictures of the human activities to understand
better.

Then I will introduce what is human pollution: Human pollution is caused by a lot of action that people do
such as: Deforestation, pollution and overfishing. And what are things that humans do to ruin our
environment. Our planet Earth is a special place that provides us with a lot of things that the humans needs.
Such as, water, food and a lot of materials that we use in a daily basis. However, people do a lot of activities
that results in ruining the ecosystem balance. Such as litter that later on can change how animal lives in
their environments.

Explain to the students that the air the we breath (oxygen) from we can’t see it. However, sometimes we
can see the air because of the colour changing. When the colour of the air changes we call it air pollution.
Air pollution happens when people starts to do a lot of activities such as: when people starts to cut a lot of
Time: 15 min

trees in the forest it called “deforestation “ that will affect the air we breathe and there will be not enough
food for the animals to survive.Futhermore, when people drive a lot of cars in the street it caused a lot of
Whole

pollution . However, we can reduce this by reduce the number of cars used.

Active Engagement (group working with the teacher)

 Teacher will have different picture of environments before and after people have starts activities
in them. And ask students question about the pictures. Teacher will students a chance to share
their ideas.

 Independent Experience (small group activity 1) Master students

Time: 15 min

 Students will do an experiment. Before they start the experiment, they have to write their
Small

hypothesis what they will think will happened before they start doing the experiment. In
the experiment: The students will have a bucket that they can see throw. Furthermore, the

bucket that they will have has a clean water in it. Also, the students will have different

materials such as: food colouring and different small things to use to pollute the water like

small rocks. They have to see the difference between the clean water and pollute water.

After they finish the experiment they have to write the result about what happen to the

water after it get polluted. Each student will have a summary sheet to write their prediction

and the results after the experiment.

Independent Experience(small group activity 2) emerging

 Students will have small plastic boket that have water in it. Also, they will have a fish and

different sea animals that are made of Sponge .

 In the group there will be different materials the students will use to pollute the water

such as: “small papers, food colouring and small rocks “.

 Students will have a paper that have a schedule. They have to write 3 sentences before

and after they pollute the water.

 After that students will have to draw a picture before and after the pollution.

Independent Experience(small group activity 3) development

 Firstly, the students must fill out a paper that they have. Which has: they have to write

the name of the environment that they will create with a human activity that can destroy

the environment.
 Students will have a half of a plastic water bottle. They have first to create an

environment that they choose. For instance: they can create the sea or a forest.

 When they create the environment that they choose.

 After that they will start to use the food colouring to pollute the environment.

 Finally, they have to write the difference before and after what happened to the

environment when people starts to pollute it.

 At the end of the lesson teacher will recap on the lesson and what did they learn today. T:

So, boys and girls today we learn about how human change the ecosystem and how that
15 min

can affect on the balance of the environment. There are a lot of human activities that can
Closing

damage the balance such as over fishing, Deforestation and Pollution.

Assessment:

 Students will have different picture about the ecosystem they have to see the picture and after that

they have to see if the environment is clean or not and if it will affect the ecosystem. The students

will use the strategy “thumbs up and thumbs down “it the environment is safe for the animals to live

in and how can we fix it.
