 Level 1 and 2 – quantitative

 Level 3 and 4 – qualitative
 Level 5- Opinion
o 4 could be an opinion too

Qualitative
 How does the relationship between doctor and nurse effect patient care?
 Does a horizontal relationship work better than a vertical one?
*Go around and ask people’s opinions on these questions
 Organize it by themes – putting like things together
 No numbers involved!
 Might find number in the demographics
 Looking for someone’s opinion or behavior

ex of qualitative
 Interview 50 patients on their major health concerns
 Interview 50 nursing students to find out major reasons for joining nursing
 Interview/survey 100 teenagers to determine dietary patterns
*More difficult – qualitative takes less people but its less generalizable to all of the population,
whereas as quantitative, they have more people so could be more generalizable. Qualitative is
easier to design and set up. Quantitative is easier to collect

Ex of quantitative

o Something that will be a number 7 cases out of 100 admitted so 7%
 Determine mortality after acute MI in 2015 at your hospital
o Again, will be a number
