GLOBAL ISSUES 2

Abstract

I define the word “poverty” and how it effects the college students with their needs. This

is a global issue, that should be discussed more often. Discussing the main issue that’s going on

around the United States and how it effects low income college students struggle to attend

school.
GLOBAL ISSUES 3

Introduction

Since 1985 many issues based on poverty has not change around the United

States. Many College students had several issues when attending school and trying to succeed

with their studies, due to the low economy. Poverty has been an issue with students, struggling to

get engaged in classroom environments and having to pay many bills such has housing, medical

and education.

Discussion

Students in poverty, have issues when trying to get an education. According to

Jensen (2013), many students struggle getting engaged and understanding in and outside

classrooms situations. Students value the importance of wanting to succeed in their studies but

having household struggles can be an issue. Some Educators out there understand the important

role to connect and validate a student equally but some lack understanding their environment.

(May 2013). In addition, research by Sonny Lopez “Colonia Residents Strive for Better Life’’

(1985) residents that live near the U.S Mexico Border have similar situation with low income

and poor health. Struggling to maintain health insurance and coverage gaps. Many community

organizations help educate residents and young students to help support them along the way. This

helps students gain a more positive attitude when attending school and handling the stress of low

poverty.

UTEP can offer many services that can help low income students. This is a global

problem that involves economic and social issues. According to Perez (2017), research low

income communities. Getting UTEP students involve helping and learn the basic skills of

working together. The college of engineering an environmental resources management help build

fresh rainwater harvesting for many poor communities. Helping them receive clean water and

learning the important role of equality. This is important because “Community Based Family

Support and Education Programs” by Weiss and Heather, understands the importance of getting

engaged by promoting a youth community development. This is design to help young children

and their families get through school by gaining a supporting hand through education, providing

programs to develop their own self growth by encouraging low income students. Based on this

evidence, the main focus is to help the college students to join services and learn different ideas

when engaging with the low-income communities. (1991)

Poverty does affect many communities around the U.S and should be discuss

more often. It is the lack of basic needs we need in life in order to survive such as food, shelter,

water and living up to our emotional needs. According to James and Christopher (2013) poverty

is a global issue and can affect many colonies out there, including the rich and the poor. They

both mentions ways to reduce income inequality by expanding taxes, residential segregation and

building working assets with your family. Not many people understand the effects of low

economy and what it does to the United States. This expresses the idea, “Pope’s visit to nonprofit

to shine light on poverty in the U.S” Amanda Guillen explains how the pope visits some of the

poorest residents in the cites to help assist this issue. More than $4.3 billion is spent by Catholic

charities who wants to make a great impact and have the desire to change the world. Helping and

informing the topic of poverty can decrease this global issue. (September 2015)

There are many health organizations that help people in poverty, because of their

low income, it is an issue for many people to maintain their health by the way they eat and

getting their education. According to Ramshaw (2011) State Health Services promotes special

volunteers and speakers to help low income poverties (p. ?). Half a million people who live in

Texas colonies and more than 350 Texans are at health risk. (July 2011) Therefore, Phillis Jay

was able to provide research leading to new organizations, workforce and policies. Including

laws that help supply food, household items and other important essentials. Improving new

movements and leading to new health organizations, who also help residents getting involve in

the workforce. (June 2013)

GLOBAL ISSUES 6

Many UTEP students come from a low-income household. Having some

relationship issues in the classrooms due to the lack of disrespect. According to “Latinos Mental

Health: A Review of Literature” By Amando and Rene both explain how Mexican Americans

struggle to receive poor health care and high stress when attending school. Students who are

Mexican American’s and live near the border face discrimination, leading to many diverse

communities feel discourage. In conclusion then, by Eric Jensen not many teachers understand

the struggle of poverty students. The people around our community can show effort by

strengthening the student’s relations and compromising with every human either rich or poor.

world. Copyright 2018 UTEP Peace Corps.

UTEP offers students to join programs that help low poverty citizens around the

world, making a difference in someone’s lives. According to Alyse (2018), she studied the risk of

low quantity and quality time for college, she is an educator from the Peace Corps at UTEP, who

discusses the different amount a childcare can be affordable and convenient for their education.

This agency provides opportunities for our students to work, live and learn with other

communities that are overseas. Providing them to rethink and address the issue of time poverty

for our next generation. (October 2018) This is important because “What is the Ultimate Goal of
GLOBAL ISSUES 7

Helping the Poor?’’ by Dr. Paul explains how poverty can lead to failure is some situations, due

to how we treat humans without respect and judging how each human lives their life. Our goal

should be ending poverty providing them with resources and showing low income humans their

worth values, some individuals need a boost to restore their good condition back. Having this

helpful experience is getting engaged with empathy and accepting the poor.

Conclusion

College students who attend school have struggles facing poverty. It is a global

issue for many of us students, who try to get an education and wanting to succeed. The students

who face poverty struggles should be address quickly and should take actions against it,

everyone with low income is not alone. Knowing all this information gave us humans an idea on

how low-income effects are education.
