John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and
it shall be done unto you.
Gracious God and Father:
We do not enjoy all your gifts of grace at once. Like a baby growing to an
adult, my ability to apprehend, appropriate and apply increases with my appetite
and experience. I thank you today I am saved by union with Christ. I am in him.
But only when I abide in that union do I receive the further purity that changes my
personality into Christlikeness, and receive the adjustments that change my joy into
godliness, and receive the power that changes my weakness into strength. This is
the path to revival, and the blended-blessedness stored-up in Christ for his
people. How do I know this viewpoint is correct? Because here is what you say!
John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my
word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make
you free.
I do not know all truth at once. Even if I read it, I do not learn it without
abiding in Jesus. I must continue in the word to be abiding. Persevering in grace
is always an educational process. So steadfastness in faith always results in
growth. The emancipating power of truth is a blessing that takes daily abiding,
because it is gradually received and enjoyed.
You who are beginning in seeking revival take heart! There is something
better for us still. No one has yet received the full reward of their faith, otherwise
the warning of 2 John 8 means nothing.
Help me climb the hill of spiritual experience to end this year. As I abide in
Christ give me firmer confidence, richer joy, greater stability, closer communion,
and greater delight in God. Make me an abider so I can see revival! Amen.

Psa. 118:1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth
for ever.
Merciful and Mighty God:
My grateful heart loves to hear praising voices! You are good…all the time.
Others look good, but you are good. Others are somewhat good, but you are
good beyond measure. When my haters treat me badly, it only stirs me to thank
you, because you are so good. And when I fall short of being good, I bless you
because you are good.
Keep me from doubting or distrusting your goodness for a second. Whatever
else confuses me, this one fact remains. The methods you use to carry out your
purpose may vary, but your providence always produces good, because your
intention is good, and because your very nature is good.
Mercy is a big part of your goodness, and that entices me because I am sinful.
I vary in my obedience, but there is no change in your goodness.
Psa. 118:5-6 I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set
me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
My prayer comes from my heart when it comes from my distress. I worship
(v 1), I praise (vv 2-4), and I pray (v 5), because all those things are components
of calling upon you. In answer to the prayer of faith you will free me and I will be free
indeed (John 8:36). I have no merit, no strength, and no wisdom apart from you. All
I can do is call for you to come to my rescue, and it is promised by grace.
I rejoice in your help when it seems like everyone else turns against me. You
are my defender and advocate, and will always accomplish the eternal purpose of
grace. Your favor outweighs both my frustrations and my failures, so I will not be
afraid. In this I will honor you this weekend for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because
they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are
no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the
same things over and over.

We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you through the
Bible chronologically in a year.
Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then
you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in
the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard
for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
“Oh,” says one, “I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer.” And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into God’s presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayer—the posture, the
time, place—rather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
