Instructional Strategies
1. Math
https://www.weareteachers.com/strategies-in-teaching-mathematics/
The type of instructional strategy this website uses is practice problems. I used number one on
the list. This strategy involves having the students practice and believing that they can learn.
Just because they are not born with the natural talent of being good at math doesn’t mean they
will always be bad. With practicing they will be able to succeed at math or anything.
2. Science
http://www.teachhub.com/jigsaw-activities-science-learning
The type of instructional strategy this website uses is the jigsaw strategy. Using the jigsaw
strategy in science is a true way that scientists collaborate to solve problems and come up with
new ideas. This is true in many fields of science like engineering and medical fields. The
scientists are able to collaborate and find out more information by listening to others. This will
prepare the students and show them how the science world works if they are interested in that for
a future career.
3. Reading
Portfolio 3

teracy.pdf
The type of instructional strategy that is used here is skits and acting things out. Using this
strategy helps the students understand the story they are reading more because they are able to
see the motions and hear the words that the reading is composed of. This is a good way to help
the students interact with one another and work on their fluency and reading skills.
4. Social Studies
https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/teaching-content/new-approach-learning-centers/
This site was describing the instructional strategy of learning centers. This is the strategy where
you go from one station to the next to learn something new. This site was describing a new and
modern way of doing this with technology. I think this would be a great strategy for social
studies because if you are learning about the civil war you could have different major battles and
activities at each station for the students to go around to. This would be a great way for students
to learn about each battle and be up and moving while doing it.
This strategy is for any age group and virtually any subject.
5. Language Arts
https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-981-10-6424-1_4
The strategy used in this link is about incorporating movement into the language arts subject.
Incorporating movement into your learning is good for the students learning and physical activity
for the day. It allows the students to get up out of their seats and get their blood to flow again.
Portfolio 4
This site also lists ways of incorporating movement into your lessons. I think this would allow
the students to focus more because of the proper blood flow and would help them become more
physically active.
6. Reading
https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Browse/Search:reading%20self%20reflection
The site is using the strategy self-reflection in reading. This site allowed me to look at actual
worksheets the teachers use with their students to self-reflect on what they read and learned. I
think this would be a good activity to do to ensure the students learning and understanding. It
would be a simple worksheet for them to work on so they can think about what they read and
write down what they remember which may help them on later assignments with the same book.
7. Math
http://www.ldonline.org/article/61885/
This is about using visual aides in math. According to this all students can benefit from seeing
what they are learning. I think this is true in some cases but some students don’t prefer visual
learning. However, the visual aides such as graphs and charts does help students understand
what the data they collected is and how it compares over time. This ability to see the differences
in the numbers is a great way for students to know more about the data they collect.
8. Physical Education
https://sparkpe.org/blog/using-technology-in-physical-education/
The strategy used on this site was incorporating technology in physical education. Many people
don’t understand how you could incorporate technology in an exercise setting, but with the
technology we use today it is possible. We are able to track our fitness daily with watches and
we can track our heartrates and steps as well. More and more people are turning to these
technologies to see how their exercise and movement is improving and teaching the students how
those numbers help their health would be a great way to incorporate technology into exercise.
9. Science
https://www.nsta.org/publications/news/story.aspx?id=50045
The strategy in use on this website is direct instruction. This website says that direct instruction
is the most effective in science classes. To incorporate this into my classroom I would try to
pass as much knowledge as I could on to the students, so they may become successful as well.
By doing this I would come up with lessons that they will be able to understand and make it
10. Math
https://www.tes.com/sites/default/files/tes_guide_to_mastery.pdf
Portfolio 6
The strategy found on this website was mastery of math. Mastery is something that math
students must have because math is a scaffolding subject. You first learn adding and subtracting
then from that you move on to multiplying and division and so on. You must learn the basics
and be good to move on to the next level. That is where mastery comes in. To do this I would
go back to the old fashioned math facts to help the students master what they must know to grow
as a student.
Reflection
This artifact was an assignment in the class Educational Psychology. This assignment
was create to help the students recognize different instructional strategies. I had to look at 10
different websites that had different instructional strategies and figure out what they were and
how I would incorporate these strategies into my classroom. I found this assignment very
interesting to see how many instructional strategies there were. At the beginning I thought there
would only be a couple; however, as I began to see all the different ways of teaching, I realized
there are multiple ways to teach a lesson. This helped me see the reality of teaching because
now I can create a lesson and know that I can shape it how I want and still get good outcomes
This artifact relates to the INTASC standard eight, the teacher understands and uses a
areas and other connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways. This
standard is shown in my artifact because I have found multiple instructional strategies on the
given websites and have given an example of how these strategies can be used in a classroom.
This assignment has shown me there are many instructional strategies to choose from and that
using a different strategy now and then in your class will engage the learners and get them
My goal is to create lessons that are diverse in these instructional strategies. After this
assignment I think it is important to change up your instruction throughout the week to keep the
students engaged and focused on the lessons. To do this I would try to incorporate a new
strategy once or twice a week and see how the students learn compared to my everyday lessons.
This will help me and the students get the best results throughout the year.
