Working Title:

The fight against Type 2 Diabetes

Research question:

Type 2 diabetes, a chronic disease resulting in abnormal levels of blood sugar, is

affecting at least 30 million people in the United States. What can healthcare providers do for

preventative care to inhibit or reverse this widespread disability.

Working Thesis:

Although Type 2 diabetes has many other contributing factors, physicians and the

healthcare system should be held up to standard of promoting preventative healthcare, especially

for type 2 diabetes, because diabetes along with many other chronic illnesses are increasing

healthcare costs and decreasing lifespans. It is important for us to educate ourselves and call for

action for a healthcare system that is invested in the future not just putting a band aide on current

health issues.

Introduction:

Type 2 diabetes is a rising concern worldwide. There are many factors contributing to type 2

diabetes such as: obesity, physical inactivity, and energy-diets (Khunti & Davies, 2017). Due to

many factors in poor health that contribute to this epidemic, the best way to treat is through

proper education on health and diet, and proper preventative techniques and screenings. It is

important to highlight the value of universal healthcare especially for minorities who have less

access to healthcare services and who also have the highest rates of diagnosed or undiagnosed

diabetes (Cefalu & Golden, 2015). Type 2 diabetes can be chronic, but it can also be reversable,

through increased healthcare coverage, improved screenings, and many other preventative

techniques, it is possible for us to halt and reverse type 2 diabetes.

Health Disparities in Diabetes Care and Research. Diabetes Care, 38(2), 186-188.

This article explains the disparities among healthcare access and how these affect the

growing levels of diabetes along with other chronic diseases.

I will use this article to support my claim that the healthcare system is faulty in dealing

with chronic issues. I will use the examples and date of lower income families who have fewer

access to healthcare and education and how this leads to higher rates of type 2 diabetes along

with other chronic illnesses.

ser., 2239-2251. doi:10.1016/s0140-6736(17)30058-2

This article argue how important screenings and preventative treatments are in the fight

against diabetes and it shows recent developments of preventative healthcare.

I will use this article to provide new techniques and developments in preventative

healthcare. I will also use the information about epidemiology and the details on type 2 diabetes

to provide a foundation for my readers to understand the importance and dangers of diabetes.

There are controlled trials, and challenges of management which will help provide counter

argument acknowledgment and specific examples.

This article approaches diabetic care through a different lens. It evaluates on the issues of

failing healthcare for the lower-class population.

The statistical analysis portion of this article will be used in my editorial to further

support and note all the different aspects of poor management of diabetic education and

preventative treatments.

This article discusses supportive techniques applied through healthcare and also

recognizes populations that don't have healthcare access.

From this article I will utilize the participant assessments and show the individual

testimonies on diabetes and its effects on everyday life. I will also use the statistics and methods

discussed in the article to further support my claims.
