ABSTRACT

The study aims to determine the food preferences of primary school children in
selected private and public schools in three LGU’s in Leyte. The study uses a descriptive-
survey research design wherein the researcher made use of a self-structured
questionnaire. A dry run was conducted to test the viability of the self- structured
questionnaire before the proper distribution of the questionnaires to its respondents. The
researcher utilized stratified random sampling and simple random sampling in selecting
the respondents who were primary school children of the three LGUs namely from the
municipality of Barugo, Tanauan and Tacloban City.
According to the result of our study in terms of age majority of the respondents
from public and private school in Tanauan belonged to the age group of 6-7 years old
while in Barugo and Tacloban City the majority of the respondents in public school were
aged 8-9 years old and in private aged 6-7 years old. In public and private school of the
three LGUs, in terms of sex, an average of 56.11% were female and 12.22% were male.
For the hypothesis, 1.) there is a significant relationship between the of food preference
of grade I to grade IV levels and the demographic profile of the respondents. 2.) there is
no significant difference among primary school children between private and public
school.
