NATURAL/EXISTING/DATUM

GROUND LEVEL
Obviously, you can ask any of these questions. What is Natural
ground level? Or What is Datum ground level? Or what is Existing
ground level? Confusing?

HERE WE GO

NATURAL / DATUM / EXISTING GROUND LEVEL

Natural ground level means the level of the surface of the ground
as defined in a field survey and authorized by a qualified surveyor
at the time of operational acceptance for development or prior to
any new earthworks having occurred after that time.

NGL has been replaced by Datum Ground Level (DGL) which is

defined as
Datum ground level.

What does Datum mean?

Datum level is a surface or level which is regarded as a base from

which other levels can be counted. For example, sea level is often
used as a datum level against which the height of land and depth of
the sea bed are measured.

OR
Datum ground level means the level of the surface of the ground as
defined in a field survey and authorized by a qualified surveyor at
the time of operational acceptance for Greenfield development or
prior to any new earthworks having occurred after that time.

QUALITY RELATED TEST TO BE DONE

After clearance and compaction of construction site Natural ground

level will convert in OGL ( Original Ground Level ). Then Soil
sample shall be taken and tested for OGL.

There is no any test required for Natural or Existing ground level.

But for OGL we will see in OGL page.

SITE CLEARANCE WORK

Before the earthwork is started, the area coming undercutting and

filling shall be cleared of shrubs, rank vegetation, grass, trees and
saplings of girth up to 30 cm measured at a height of
one meter above ground level and rubbish removed up to a distance
of 50 meters outside the periphery of the area under clearance. The
roots of trees and saplings shall be removed to a depth of 60 cm
below ground level or 30 cm below formation level or 15 cm below
subgrade level, whichever is lower, and the holes or hollows filled up
with the earth, rammed and leveled. The trees of girth above 30 cm
measured at a height of one meter above ground shall be cut only
after permission of the Engineer-in-Charge is obtained in writing.
The roots of trees shall also be removed.

CLEANING AND GRABBING

Existing structures and services such as old buildings, culverts,

fencing, water supply pipelines, sewers, power cables,
communication cables, drainage pipes etc. within or adjacent to the
area if required to be diverted/removed, shall be
diverted/dismantled as per directions of the Engineer-in-Charge
and payment for such diversion/dismantling works shall be made
separately.

If sthe ite is already free from grass, trees, shrubs, any vegetable or
organic matter then ground shall be levelled and compacted by
Roller
