JC1 Clinical Skills Task List

Students will undergo a clinical skills assessment (OSCE) at the end of JC1 and any of the
following examination skills can be assessed

Cardiovascular System

These tasks apply at the start of the consultation

Introduces self/Greets patient

Explanation/Consent

Hand Hygiene

Position and expose (ideally)

1. General inspection

2. Hand examination

3. Face examination

4. Radial pulse examination

5. Jugular venous pressure examination

6. Carotid pulse examination

7. Inspection of the praecordium

8. Palpation of the apex beat

9. Palpate for praecordial impulses

10. Auscultation of the heart

Respiratory System

These tasks apply at the start of the consultation

Hand Hygiene

Position and expose (ideally)

1. General Inspection

2. Closer inspection of chest wall

3. Hand examination

4. Respiratory rate examination

5. Radial pulse examination

6. Face examination

7. Examination of the trachea

8. Palpate for lymphadenopathy

9. Chest expansion (anterior and posterior)

10. Examine for tactile vocal fremitus (anterior and posterior)

11. Chest percussion (anterior and posterior)

12. Chest auscultation (anterior and posterior)

13. Examine for vocal resonance (anterior and posterior)
