Cincinnati Renewable Fuels LLC, a subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC), converts
soybean cooking oil into biodiesel. The facility has a capacity of approximately 70 million gallons per
year. Our biodiesel is blended into petroleum diesel for sale at retail gas stations. The facility also
produces smaller amounts of other products, most notably glycerin, which can be further processed for
use in food and medicine.
MPC facilities have emergency response plans covering the types of incidents we may face. These
plans are submitted to, and reviewed by, the local emergency response organizations. If an incident has
potential for off-site impacts, we immediately notify outside agencies having regulatory authority and
local emergency responders.
The public is not expected to respond to any alarms that they might hear from the MPC Cincinnati
facility. We occasionally test audible alerts within our plant to notify our employees of required actions. In
the event that the public would need to respond, instructions would be provided via local emergency
responders through their normal communication process.
Cincinnati Renewable Fuels, like all MPC facilities, seeks to conduct its work while also being a steward
of the environment. We achieve environmental compliance as prescribed by the Cincinnati Renewable
Fuels air permit, issued by the Ohio EPA, and utilize controls to operate the plant efficiently.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized Cincinnati Renewable Fuels with its ENERGY
STAR Challenge for Industry award for reducing energy intensity (the amount of energy expended per
the amount of production) by more than 30 percent in a single year.
