In your in-class essay, you were asked to consider how food is a way to learn about each other's
cultures, but needs to be respected as part of other people's cultural history. In a well-written

community like Henderson State. What is the most important principle for people to remember
when starting out in a new community that is composed of people from a number of different

us not only certain aspect's of a culture and history as a whole but also of each
individual's history in any given culture as well. Due to individuals putting their own
. personaltouch's to what they choose to eat we can get a look into where a person has
come from and are able to possibly understand a little bit about that individual. Those
personaltouch's can become apparent especially when a person moves into a new area
due to its nature of becoming one of the hardest things a person changes about
themselves to try to fit into an area because of what it can mean to us personally.
Because of such things people possibly changing what they wear and other aspects of
themselves that a person would normally notice first about an individual when meeting
them for the first time, it can be easily to miss what exactly they are eating.

An important principle for people to remember when starting out in a new


bmmunty is that before you can become aware of another culture is to become aware
of your own. Without understanding how your culture has affected you first hand, you
will have a difficult time knowing how lt could possibly affect someone else and how it
might be important to them. As you become more comfortable talking about your own
culture and where you come from, then you will become better at listening to where
other people are coming from.
