NACA Numbers
What do they mean?

1st Digit-Maximum Camber (Divide by 100 to turn into percentage)

2nd Digit-Chordwise Position of the Maximum Camber (Divide by 10 to turn into

percentage)

3rd and 4th Digit-Maximum Thickness of airfoil section (Divide by 100 to turn into
percentage)

EX: NACA 2418-Camber of 2%,

Reflection Questions
1.Through the process so far, what has gone well for your group? What has gone poorly? How have you managed
challenges? Designing and brainstorming. The ShopBot destroying our parts. We just dealt with the parts and recut
them.

2. What would you and your group do differently if you were to start this project over? Put more time into the building of
the wing.

3. What steps do you still need to complete to finish the project? We need to assemble the fuselage and the stabilizers

4.How does the manufacturing process impact design (i.e. tooling, tolerance, design, materials, etc.)? How did the
ShopBot impact the design of your ribs & spars? It limits the space that can be used and the complexity of designs.

5. When using the ShopBot or Laser Engraver, you had to create a specific file type so that your parts could be cut or
engraved. From this process, where do you still have questions or trouble understanding? What could reviewed in class
so that you are better prepared for the next project. We are all good on the ShopBot.
