Subject: iFix-It Team Charter

Mission:
Team Zephyr is a multi-disciplinary team focused on developing an intuitive, effective guide for
fixing the Insignia electric fan. This technical guide will include step by step repair instructions
and photos. Upon completion, it will be submitted to the wiki-based site www.ifixit.com,
empowering others to fix their own Insignia fans. This venture relies on a team culture focused
on efficiency, respect, and productivity.

Expectations:
As project manager, Hank D., is responsible for overall efficiency, communication, and time
management. The team’s editing manager, Tina C., will oversee prewriting, drafting, and
revision of the guide. Sheena P., our research manager will conduct a review of the existing
knowledge on repairing Insignia fans. The collection, design, and editing of photos used in the
guide will be managed by the photo manager Therese L.

Meetings: Team meetings will take place every other week from September 23rd to November
19th, 2018. They will be held in the group meeting rooms available in the CSUF library. If a team
member is unable to attend a meeting due to extenuating circumstances, they must notify the
team as soon as possible. Correspondence outside of this meeting will take place via text,
email, and through shared Google documents. The expected turnaround time for all direct
correspondence is 24 hours.

Communication: Team members will communicate in a respectful and honest manner. All
members should be able to convey and receive constructive criticism. When providing
feedback, individuals are expected to avoid becoming emotionally involved and make an effort
to ask clarifying questions. The generation of an exemplary technical guide is contingent on a
coordinated team effort, where each individual’s strengths are utilized.

Resolving Conflict
Team members that fail to meet team expectations are expected to take swift action to rectify
their behavior. An unintentional lack in performance will be addressed with empathy and
support. Any behavioral problems will be identified quickly so they can be evaluated and
resolved (Heathfield, 2018). Decisions that can be subjected to a vote, will be. Split votes will
require a logical compromise. If a conflict cannot be resolved internally, it will be brought to the
professor’s attention, so an objective party can identify the root cause of the conflict and come
up with a solution (Miller, 2018).

Firing Clause: If a team member demonstrates an ongoing disregard for team obligations,
disciplinary proceedings will take place. Failure to meet the expectations listed above will be
considered a charter breach. Three charter breaches will be grounds for firing. The firing of a
teammate will be accompanied by supporting evidence (e.g. timesheet, testimonials, emails,
etc.).
