Argumentative Essay

People who have dyslexia are just as great, as people who don't have it. People with

dyslexia are not always at a disadvantage because of they way they think and perceive certain

things like word order. There have been many cases where people have become very successful

and have gone to achieve great things in education and career wise. This learning disability

shouldn't be perceived as a bad thing because it can bring greater things.

People who have dyslexia should not have to tell people that they have this and should

not be treated differently because of this. Some people have trouble getting a job because of

having dyslexia, but this shouldn’t be the case because they are not entirely at a disadvantage

they just think differently. This does not hinder a person from doing a certain task, they may

have troubles, but there are always ways to fix things and as well they can get help to improve in

this. There should be encouragement brought to people who have dyslexia, this way they can get

the motivation to work harder and not let this affect their work.

People with dyslexia are more creative thinkers. They are able to think in a different way,

which allows for different ideas to come to mind. They could think for a solution for a problem,

if the problem is very difficult to obtain. They are able to think for a different way to the

solution. This learning disorder does not change the fact on the way they can perform a certain

task or not. This just means that they have a learning curve, which could not mean it is always a

bad thing. This could lead to great things. In a Monthly Review: An Independent Socialist

Magazine the article “The Political Economy of Dyslexia” by Steven L. Strauss, the author

describes within the text that in order for people to improve on their weaknesses is that it

shouldn’t be a factor in the first place. There shouldn't be a stigma on dyslexia and that people

with this learning disorder should be provided help and not outcasted to a group because of this.

If this is a reason someone doesn’t get hired it just lowers the person’s self-esteem to improve

and it may lead them to not do better for themselves.

People say that because people have dyslexia that they can mess up things more

frequently in the workplace or any situation aside from work as well. They could be hired to

work in a place where it’s necessary that there be no mistakes in the documents they may be

working on. So this could be a reason why people with dyslexia don’t get hired. But if this is the

case there wouldn’t be many to hire and there wouldn’t be room for improvement.

In “Back to the Lake” by Thomas Cooley, in the essay “The Extraordinary

Characteristics of Dyslexia” by Jack Horner, the writer speaks about his dyslexia and how even

with having this, he managed to do many great things. Jack Horner states “Linear thinkers are

burdened by high expectations from everyone, including themselves”(pg.494). This is to show

that if you expect to much, your are more likely to not be as happy and may cause more

problems in the end. There should be room for mistakes, so people can learn to improve. This

way that people keep learning and don't get stuck doing the same thing over and over again.

If people are always separated for having this disorder, then this will make the person

having this feel different. This could be bad because they could disconnect from people/world

and or not try to improve on their problem they have. Programs and help should be provided to

people with this, so that they won't be affected in the long run. Many places of education provide

additional help to students which are a good thing because this will lead to a better

comprehension on basic word formations.

In the article “Valuing differences” by Rentenbach, Barb, Prislovsky, Lois and Gabriel

Rachael, the authors state that although there not good at seeing words in the right order that

“they use the acronym MIND, referring to advanced abilities in Material reasoning,

Interconnected reasoning, Narrative or story-based reasoning, and Dynamic reasoning”(pg.1).

These are four skills seen in people who have dyslexia which is a good thing because they can

weigh out the bad with the good additional abilities. These other skills that are more seen in

people with dyslexia is a good thing because when they know they have something else to

comprise with what they don’t have it could make them feel better about themselves as

individuals.

People with this disadvantage can always work to improve this and this does not

necessarily mean they will mess up everytime. They can start really early when diagnosed with

the learning disorder in early stages of education. When they are first found with this learning

disabilities, they are helped in the education environment to help improve this. With getting help

in this they are able to find a way for themselves to work in a way where it won’t affect them as

much. There has also been cases to show that people with this go on to do great things in their

life. In Jack Horners essay “The Extraordinary Characteristics of Dyslexia”, the author himself

went on to do great things. He was admitted into “American Academy of Achievement”(pg.494).

This was something for people with good qualifications and worked hard in their studies. Even

with having dyslexia, he still managed to do great.

Students and adults anywhere with dyslexia should not be outcasted because of having

this. They should be treated equally and as well they should be offered help to improve. There is

always the possibility of someone messing up, and people with this disorder usually have tried to

get improvement on this. This disorder doesn’t mean there incapable of doing something, they

are the same as everyone else they may just have a slight change in there way of perceiving

certain things. This is not a disadvantage because there are more to people, and people with this

disorder work hard to improve and to not mess up.
